    I am using Windows XP and I have unpacked M2TW. I've also unzipped the "ui" and "text" folders into the data folder within the "kingdomofthescots" folder. However, each time I try to launch the game I get this message:

    I double-click the KotS icon which shows the .bat file and then the loading screen for the mod arrives (as shown). The hour glass cursor will do its little spin but then of course that error message comes up and I'm taken back to the desktop.

    I should also perhaps note that the method I used to install the game was that I had already had M2TW unpacked beforehand and thus just copied the "british_isles" folder and renamed it to "kingdomofthescots". While I don't think that's crucial info I thought I'd go ahead and mention it anyway...

    But yeah, so um, any ideas?

    Why have you put them in the kingdomofthescots/data folder? That folder already contains text and UI folders. You will have overwritten the modded britannia files with the incomplete and unmodded MTW2 files.

    Delete your kingdomofthescots folder and repeat the installation. Follow the instructions this time.

    If your main MTW2 data folder is unpacked do nothing with the zip files!

    Any suggestions?

    As far as the skins, I am referring to grey peasant pics for all Viking units. Each unit appears to be named differently with different stats but the appearance (on the unit info screen as I can't see them on the Battle Map) is that of grey peasants.

    The rest of the battles are fine.

    Okay, I've just deleted the "text" and "ui" folders that I unzipped into the "kingdomofthescots" folder. Problem is, I only did that in the first place out of some frail hope that it would sort the problem out, because yeah, that error message was already coming up before I unzipped those folders.

    Fortunately, I noticed that I unzipped the folders just to the "kingdomofthescots" folder and not to its "data" folder for some reason. I only mention this because I luckily hadn't overwritten anything by doing so. Anyway, above all, M2TW had definitely been unpacked beforehand and still is.

    In short, I've no idea where the problem is... If I did I'd save you the trouble and try to sort it out myself. I'd probably end up disintegrating my computer by doing so but yeah.

    Having a bit of a problem here with the new Kingdomofthescots.
    After installing it and it starts up, everything seems fine untill i get to the campaign map. at this point there are big boxes where the text should be.

    im on vista but couldn't find anyone having the same problem on those threads. im hoping somebody could show me where ive made a mistake?

    Ceannard. Please see my previous post. The UI and Text folders that are supplied in the zip files are for fixing this problem. If you have unpacked MTW2 then you do not need to add the folders from the zip files. If your MTW2 is still packed then you need them in the main MTW2/Data folder. This should solve the text/interface problems, if it does not then I have no idea why!

    Sir Bobbert. If you have unpacked MTW2 and Britannia I suggest making a copy of your original british_isles folder renaming it kingdomofthescots and reinstalling the mod. Something is missing in the kingdomofthescots folder I believe. Also try running the game by double clicking the "medieval2.kingdomofthescots.bat" inside the kingdomofthescots folder.

    Okay, finally got it working. And so far the game is awesome. I'm glad I can see up close and personal the effectiveness of the whole clan system, and I particularly like the units.

    Anyway, to avoid off-topic ranting, only problem I've noticed thus far with my installation is that there are no unit highlights. By that I mean there are no green triangles or whatever they are that appear beneath a unit once selected. Instead, only the banner lights up, which is certainly better than nothing but I want those...uh...triangle things...yeah.

    Is it something to do with the "ui" folder?

    Hmm, every time I try and fight a battle I get a CTD with the following message:

    "Medieval 2: Total War has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit."

    I was playing as England every time. Around 5 times I attacked the brown rebels, twice the Loyalist Scots and another time the Welsh.

    Any ideas on how to get it working? I really do want to play this mod, it seems great.

    There was a reason why this did not work but I can't recall why. Maybe the patch made a difference? Perhaps you could try!

    Sir Bobbert, we have removed the green markers because we don't like them. They can be reinstated - in the kingdomofthescots folder, open the medieval2.kingdomofthescots.cfg file with notepad. Find the line that says: disable_arrow_markers = 1 and change the 1 to a 0.

    Vor, did you delete the geography files from the kingdomofthescots/data folder?

    no the keyboard that i have is a mini one that plugs into the usb and it doesnt have a num pad

    oh u misunderstood me i cant use my enter button at all and you know when it asks you to press y and then enter thats the problem i get stuck on i was wonderin if someone could upload an upacked version but i guess u cant legally

    The unpacked version of the Britannia mod is 1.35 GB. Don't think you will find someone to upload it. It is not legal and you would still need to press "Enter" at some point.
