    Default a few questions.

    I modded a bit here and there but am no expert at it, I managed to improve quite a few things I disliked about the game but heres a few questions that could help me perfect it to my liking.

    Barser has made a good mod for general skins and models, sadly it relies on another mod and I dont want that other mod.

    Still I would want my generals to look different and I did find a file somewhere that describes the general model.

    Would it be possible to replace this with the model of a hero of that faction from kingdoms? would that work? or to use the same model as the captain?

    Since adding units to rosters is beyond me I also have another question. Is it possible to give units of a faction the appearance of mercenary units that use the same weapon?

    To make zweihanders look like Swabian swordsmen for example, or varangian guard like heavy axemen.

    Hmm this is possible,

    you'd need to copy the unit models of the General: his Mount Attachments and Mesh from Kingdoms, into the unit_models folder then into the right folders - then in the descr_character.txt file - find the general (named character section), and change his battle_model to the one you found in Kingdoms for example;

    faction milan
    dictionary 15
    strat_model southern_general
    strat_model southern_general ; heir
    strat_model northern_generic_king ; leader
    battle_model Northern_General
    battle_equip gladius, chainmail shirt helmet and rectangular shield

    faction milan
    dictionary 15
    strat_model southern_general
    strat_model southern_general ; heir
    strat_model northern_generic_king ; leader
    battle_model Northern_General_new
    battle_equip gladius, chainmail shirt helmet and rectangular shield

    Then when you've done this go into the battle_models.db file and add;

    20 Northern_General_new
    1 1
    82 unit_models/_Generals_and_Captains/Northern_General/new_northern_general_lod0.mesh 6400
    1
    15 knights_templar
    98 unit_models/_Generals_and_Captains/Northern_General/textures/late_general_knights_templar2.texture
    88 unit_models/_Generals_and_Captains/Northern_General/textures/late_general_normal.texture 0
    1
    15 knights_templar
    63 unit_models/AttachmentSets/Final General_byzantium_diff.texture
    63 unit_models/AttachmentSets/Final General_byzantium_norm.texture 0

    Change the names to suit you.

    Try this for now, it may probably not work as I've not explained everything, but set that up for now and give us a shout

    erhm that already sounds rather complicated to me.

    I did find out with some tests that mercenary appearances cant be used for faction units, and I managed to make the german captain model also the general model.

    Are there any unused models that I could apply to a general or captain without having to add lines anywhere?

    Maybe it works by only putting in the attachemt from sstc in you attachment folder and then install my mod.

    try installing sstc in a random folder and then copy paste the attachments.

    I see you released a new version.

    why does it need that other mod though? does it add the models?

    While I like most of your general and captain skins there are a few I really dont like much and I mostly just want different skins for the captains and generals and rather not have armies and heroes spawning.

    Would it be possible for me to make your general appearances available to select in the describe character file in some way? Then I can look those up that I like and use them.

    or maybe I am just way in over my head then.

    SSTC adds some of the models yes. Thats why I cant make it stand alone.
    You can disable the generals you dont want in descr_charecter and you can disable the faction leaders you dont want in campaign script and descr strat. The same goes for spawning hero generals in campaign script.
