Depends on your motherboard really, but in most cases, yes DDR500 will work in quite well. BUT, as it runs at 250Mhz, you won't see any of the extra speed unless you overclock the cpu. It will automatically revert to DDR400(200Mhz). Anything over DDR400 is typically considered "enthusiast" RAM. If you don't plan on overclocking at all, a GOOD set of PC3200 sticks should serve you well.
You CAN overclock quite well with PC3200(but that's another thread *tongue* .)
Companies like Kingston, Crucial, Corsair, Mushkin are the way to go.
