post it in 1.5 suggestions thread if you want it to appear in the game
those are nice swords, i think alot of the seljuk ones look simular
also the date is 158something, the game is set from 1174 to 1400. the seljuks might have used different swords earlier.
Hi,
Cool pics. They must be from a military history museum. Can you find any pics of Seljuk warriors, or their equipment.
That would be great.

Interesting post, but as you can read on the small tablet under the sword (3rd-4rth pic I think) you can see its from mid/late 16th century, so quite late time frame for the game as BC starts out in 1180.
Never the less it could be considered, as they really are wonderfull.
under sword use Ottoman army ( Yavuz Sultan Selim--- Sultan Selim I ) but on sword use Seljuks

From what I know, the sabre originated somewhere in Central Asia as early as the 6th-7th century AD, so obviously it has its place in the mod and the Seljuks certainly used it. However, the pictures in this thread are of swords dating from the 16th to the 19th century, and therefore do not quite fit in the timeframe of the mod.
It would be nice to see some real Seljuk sabres, as I am sure they differed from the Ottoman and Persian sword of the 16th century onwards.
I see, but that was common in the tribal troops rather than regular or the Sultan troops in that time. if you read more about Zangids, Ayyubids and Great Seljuk you will find that straight sword were more common in that time and the elites were using heavy mace or axes like Tabars, Lion head and eagle Head mace.
Ottoman sword with Seljuks sword between very little difference and 12-13. century belong to weapon find more difficult work
Anatolian Seljuks sword (Janissary inf and Timariot lancers) quite good but Great Seljuks sword is very bad, basic Two, only state!
swords this much differen, become a lot of wrong
Hi,
Very cool pics. Thanks. When it comes to the issue of swords, according to my research both Seljuks and Ottomans used straight and curved swords or scimitars.
And Ghulam helmets were more used by the Seljuks, later Ottomans used them just for Sipahi cavalry up until the late 1300s. Then the Sipahi heavy cavalry wore turbans.

The Seljuks would have had a straighter saber at first--those Ottoman blades were very much a different type of saber than the earlier Seljuk ones, and were Persian-derived, taking influence from the Safavid shamshir style.
The first pic attached is an early Turkic saber (like 9th century early I think) , then a museum photo of a medieval Turkic warrior's equipment, either of which would be more accurate to Seljuk weapons depending on the century.
Yatagan:
A Turkish sword or scimitar having a double-curved blade and an eared pommel, but lacking a handle guard.
[Turkish yataǧan.]
This is the detail work from a Seljuk Turk sword from Topkapi Museum.
si vis pacem para bellum
The earliest yataghans known date as late as the early 16th century, and they are in essence a long, heavily decorated knife (see the one in the Met, which belonged to Suleyman the Great). I think they have no place in the mod.
ShayanMirza, all the evidence suggests that it was actually the Persians, who acquired the sabre from the Turks, not the other way around. Even Persian-centric writers on the subject as Mr. Khorasani agree with this. Before the Seljuks the Persian swords were straight, and only later we tend to see sabres in the Persian miniatures, obviously brought there by invading Turks.
As for the typical Ottoman hilt, I think what is attributed to the Ottomans might actually have been a Mameluke creation. For a pure Ottoman sword, I think one needs to look at earlier examples and my favorite is the sword of Mehmet II Fatih, the conqueror of Constantinople. My feeling is that it is much closer to earlier Seljuk swords in blade and hilt shape than the 19th century swords people insist on posting in this thread.
