Thread: 4 Seasons 3.1

  1. #1

    Default 4 Seasons 3.1

In this mod 9 fantasy factions do battle for dominance of a fantasy world.
The 3.0 version of this mod can be downloaded from one of these links:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?5rfhaab2an16rn6
    http://www.gamefront.com/files/23024710/seasons_7z

The 3.1 patch is at the bottom of this post.

NB: this mod requires the official M2TW 1.2 patch or higher or it will not work. The 1.2 patch can be downloaded here:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=1545

    Features

    • Magic: there are 6 magic types; fire, earth, wind, snow, water, and plague magic. Fire magic can burn siege equipement and plague magic makes other units ill. If I could add water magic I could make an Avatar mod (blue flames don't look quite the same). Though the 2.2 version's snow magic is a good start.
    • Castles and cities have been merged. Large and huge cities now become Fortresses and Citadels, respectively.
    • Undead: undead units will never rout though they are weaker than their living counterparts.
    • New units: this mod now contains new units from the Santa Invasion, Blue Lotus (RTW), and Female Soldier models mods.

To demonstrate these new features I have made a Youtube video to about this mod. It can be viewed here:

    Installation Guide

    Pre-installation
This mod also requires the offical 1.2 patch for M2TW, it can be downloaded here:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=1545

    Installation

    0) Download this mod (seasons.7z) from one of the links below and unpack it using 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/). This should give you a 'seasons lite' folder that contains a 'data' and 'seasons' folder, and the seasons.bat and seasons.cfg files.
    http://www.mediafire.com/?5rfhaab2an16rn6
    http://www.gamefront.com/files/23024710/seasons_7z

    1) Go to the Medieval II Total War directory (default is C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War).

    2) Copy and paste the seasons.bat, seasons.cfg, and 'seasons' folders from the 'seasons lite' folder into the Medieval II Total War directory (default location 'C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War'). These files form most of the mod.

    3) Copy and paste the 'data' folder in the 'seasons lite' folder into the Medieval II Total War directory, you will be asked if you wish to overwrite the vanilla 'data' folder, click yes. This will add the shared.sd and strategy.sd into the 'Medieval II Total War\data\ui' folder.

If these files are not put in the correct folder the mod will not display correctly. However if other mods need their own shared.sd and strategy.sd these files may prevent them working. If you other mods do not display correctly try deleting these files (there's a spare copy of them in the 'Medieval II Total War\seasons\data\ui' folder).

    4) To play this mod double click on the 'seasons.bat' file and select the campaign you want to play.

    5) To make the 'seasons.bat' file into a destop shortcut right click on it, select 'Send To' on the pop-up menu, then select 'Desktop (create shortcut)'.

    Additional Files
If the sound does not work copy the 'Medieval II Total War/data/sound' folder to the 'seasons/data' folder.

    3.1 Patch

The '4seasons _3.1_patch.7z' file will upgrade the 3.0 version of this mod to the 3.1 version. This version gives the Animositans a new language (native), fixes some language problems with the Titanocene, fixes some unit problems, and adds resources to the campaign map so there is more trade.

To update download the '4seasons _3.1_patch.7z' attached to this post and unpack it. This will give you a folder called 'seasons patch'. In the 'seasons patch' folder there are several files and folders. Copy and past these files and folders to the 'seasons\data' folder (default location 'C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\seasons\data'). Overwrite any exisiting files.

    Future Improvements

    1) To improve the unit cards and skins of the new units, and improve the appearance of the undead.
    2) To add more native factions.

Thanks to ErrantKnight's help I have got the Shishi to look and move correctly. Also while trying to add hornets to this mod I learned how to modify projectiles. This enabled me to change how the magic attacks were displayed, so I could make them look more natural (graphically speaking). Further experimentation with the animations means that magic users now perform more natural moves when casting spells (physiologically speaking) and can fire at a faster rate.

Since most people will not want to redownload this mod for a minor update I've made a 2.1 patch and added it to the first post (I couldn't attach it because the uploader kept timing out). To install it download the patch, unpack it, and place the files in the 'seasons/data' folder (default location 'C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\seasons\data'). When asked if you want to overwrite these files click 'yes'. This should not prevent any saved games from loading, however I have not tested this.

The 2.1 patch can be downloaded here:

:hmmm: You can make Ice Bolts and Arrows, you can certainly change the color of the fire effects (texture) to white/blue (or green for Poison) for another spell effects like ice blast or water fountains (greek fire) and you can combine it with stun effects.

    Regards A.U.

Note: And make snowballs (naphtha) for santa's army.

The main problem with doing this is that I don't know which textures in the 'data\models_effects\textures' file affects which projectiles (all the projectiles are cas files), so changing the textures is very hit and miss.

Personally I'd like to make white boulders and call them snowballs, but the it would be no different from earth magic (but giant naphtha might be interesting). Though what colour would a water / ice mage be (I already have blue for Tempest and light grey for earth)?

Also what are the stun effects?

If you want it to work stop spamming and dont ad the strategy ds and the shared ds but if you have added them you´ll have to reinstall vanilla becuse it overwrites the original files.
If these files are not put in the correct folder the mod will not display correctly. However if other mods need their own shared.sd and strategy.sd these files may prevent them working. If you other mods do not display correctly try deleting these files (there's a spare copy of them in the 'Medieval II Total War\seasons\data\ui' folder).
and remember follow every other step of the installation exactly as he said.

ok if you followed his instruction exactly by word you would have first unzipped it then taken the three files he speciefied from the unzipped folder !!!!Do Not unzip into the medieval 2 folder!!!!!
and put them in the standard medieval dictionary Buti would recommend to ignore step 3 if you don´t want conflicts Then you run the game with the Bat file that you put in the medieval 2 dictionary in step 2 and not with the vanilla launcher.

If more problems you don´t have patch 1.2 or higher i use vanilla kingdoms so hgher wouldn´t be a problem.

Be sure to follow evry step by the letter exept step 3!!!!!!!!!

    Default Re: 4 Seasons 2.1

    1) The 2.1 patch was designed to convert the 2.0 version to the 2.1 version because most people don't want to download a 200mb mod again for 6mb work of changes. If you download the 2.1 version you don't need the patch because you already have the 2.1 version.

    2) If you've unpacked it correctly the 'Medieval II Total War' folder (default location 'C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War') should contain the follow a folder called 'seasons', and the 'seasons.bat' and 'seasons.cfg' files. If you only have a folder called 'seasons lite' you need to put its contents into the 'Medieval II Total War' folder.

If you have a file called 'seasons 2.1.7z' you need to unpack it using 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/). This will give you the 'seasons lite' folder.

    3) For this mod to work properly you need to have M2TW version 1.2 or higher; and have one copy of the shared.sd and strategy.sd in the 'Medieval II Total War\seasons\data\ui' folder (the mod won't display correctly without them but it doesn't matter what information they contain).

    4) Installing the 2.1 patch into another mod's data folder will stop that mod working. It will also stop the vanilla M2TW from working.
