    Chapter Four: Italia
    Part Three: Weakening Rome
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The Iberian armies defeated some Roman armies. Sicily seemed to be under our control. The war against Germania was one without an end. We had to keep fighting and defeating invading armies from Germania. Like when Palben attacked another German army who besieged one of our settlements

    The enemy charged us

We killed some of their units

And after that the rest of the army retreated

In Sicily another Roman army tried to reconquer their cities. Gregori attacked them while they besieged Messana

Our Numidians tried to kill them with missiles but those Romans know clever formations to protect themselves

The elephants we brought from Africa inflicted a lot of casualties

    Our cavalry also charged

After a while the first elephants were killed. But they still kept killing Romans

The reinforcements stayed at a distance

After a while we killed the Roman general. An important event

    The Romans started to flee

    It was another great victory

The Romans sent most of their armies south. It was clear their economy suffered from the war.

Unai, son of Txanton, headed to the port of Carthaga. He was going to Sicily to revenge the death of his brother. He now was faction heir.

Another siege had to be broken by Greorgi

Our onagers fired at the enemy

    The Romans approached

    We waited on a hill

We fought the Greeks who fought for the Romans

After a while some Roman units routed

    Our cavalry charged

The last Roman soldiers had to be defeated

    Another nice victory

The Germanians didn't leave us alone

The Roman city we took in Northern Italia was under siege. Segovax attacked to break the siege

    We approached the enemy

    Together with the reinforcements

    It was a long battle

But after a while our soldiers gave up

Another battle to defend our territory from the Germans

The Germans used the feared Scythian mercenaries

    It was a long fight

    Our cavalry attacked from behind

    We were victorious

The Romans attacked our settlement in Northern Italia

We waited for them to attack

    An intense fight

But after a while it was clear this was another defeat in the north

One of our spies moved east. He saw the Macedonians had very large armies

Palben attacked the German intruders again

Mikel and Gregori decided it was time to leave Sicily and move further into Roman territory. They were attacked by Romans

The Romans used primitive barbarians in this battle

We fought the enemy general's bodyguard

    And we killed him

After that we won the battle

Now both our armies moved to the city Croton and attacked. The Romans had reinforcements coming to the city

We decided to quickly take the city and wait for the enemy reinforcements on the center of the city so we had the advantage of defense.

We killed the garrison of the city

And now waited for the reinforcements

They were low on morale and most Romans gave up quick

    We took the city

    The last defense for Arretium

Our armies were already tired from the previous battles

Another German army moved in our lands

    Our cavalry killed their skirmishers

    Another intense fight

Our general faced the enemy general on the battlefield

Our men killed the German general

    Now most enemies started routing

    Another victory
Two large Roman armies approached Croton. We attacked

Our army was made of a lot of mercenaries at this time. They fought the Roman hoplites

The Roman cavalry fought our reinforcements cavalry

    The battle was intense

    We killed their general

    Some more Roman units approached

    But they routed

    We won this battle also

The Romans hardly had armies left to defend itself. Now it wouldn't take too long before we would own the Italian peninsula, and thus the Western Mediterranean

Nice update KA. The Roman don't have many armies left, so Italie will soon be yours.

Impressive battles against those Romans KA. Alot of red tunics trampled into the ground. It looks like the next time you post, Italy will be under your banners. Thanks for the update.

Excellent last battle there, I had my doubts about you winning, but you pulled it off despite being down 800 odd men. Nice update.

King Arthuro, I see you're pretty much done with Italy. Perhaps just a couple of stacks left. The last battle was the cherry on the top of the pie. Well done, indeed. Iberians have same strength as Romans, after all: a spear to throw and a sword to thrust with. I think those Romans do miss their triarii after marian reforms

I see you began counting Macs' stacks. Is invasion of Greece in order?
A few pics are truly great. If you could get rid of those green unit markers

I've been sending some scouts into Macedonian territory indeed. Although I'm planning to spread barbarian culture in my own territory before waging another war. I'm not sure if I will do that because I always think I'll develop my country before making new enemies but somehow the call for more territory is to strong! I'll see how it will work out.

I'm not updating a lot because of school but I see most of the AAR writers have this problem..

    Chapter Four: Italia
    Part Four: Almost there
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The seemingly invincible Roman armies bitted the dust. The brave Iberians landed on their coasts and defeated many of those Roman soldiers. With hardly any enemy armies left we continued the conquest of Italia. However, the Germanic tribes and what was left of the Gauls kept invading our territory. Palben, our new promising general, attacked one of the Gallic armies that besieged one of our settlements north of the Alps

The enemy saw us and charged. Those barbarians don't have any discipline.

    Soon they routed

    They aren't a real thread

The legendary Mikel was about to slain another Roman army together with Gergori. They fought quite some battle together

    Mikel waited on a hill

Our rain of missiles made them rout

The cavalry of Gergori charged and Mikel decided to join them

The Romans gave up. However, we didn't just let them leave the battlefield without losses

Mikel was now officially the most legendary general Iberia knew

A young general was about to fight a Germanic army

    The Germans approached

We traded our missiles with their feared axes

After that it was a one on one fight

Our cavalry charged the enemy generals bodyguard

The German general was completely surrounded and killed

    The battle was won

Mikel moved north towards Tarentum. He attacked a small Roman army on his way to it

    He surrounded the enemy

The cavalry came from the back

    And the enemy routed

It was time for the battle for Tarentum

    The Romans came

The first enemy units were killed. More followed

Our cavalry attacked and killed their general

Tertius the Lucky wasn't so lucky this time

    But the fight continued

Mikel, separated from his bodyguard, once again showed his courage

After all Romans ran away we killed the fleeing cowards

The undefended Tarentum was now ours

Once again we invaded Italia from the north. First some Gauls had to be fought

    The were no match

In the south we continued our advance

    The city was badly defended

Palben already proved himself. Now it was time to attack Italia. He attacked a Gallic settlement.

    He first attacked their reinforcements

    Easy to defeat

After that our soldiers entered the settlement

    And took the city square.

The Seleucids attacked the Scythians. We've fought some Scythain mercenaries in the German armies and knew these men are strong fighters. It's always good to see they have more enemies

We were about to take another Gallic settlement

    Our large cavalry attacked

While our infantry waited for the rest of the enemy army

Our general attacked the Gallic general

Another settlement was put under our control

Gergori fought one of the last real Roman armies

    We charged

    It was a long fight

But after a while the first Romans routed

Now it was an easy task to defeat the rest

The Seleucids are in another war. It looks like this faction is becoming very powerfull

    We continued our conquest

    The Roman general charged

It was a long and tiring battle. We lost many men in Capua

We got a strange message from the people who lost many battles against us. They claimed that they would soon be victorious, while our armies controlled the entire west side of the world.

Some Gauls attacked Palben close to Patavium

    Another easy battle

Akil was about to fight another battle against the Romans.

    The enemy approached

    It was an intense fight

And after a while our soldiers retreated

The first big defeat in a while. It was bad but we could handle it. The Romans only controlled 3 cities. Although our armies weren't able to retrain we were sure we would win this war

Great progress Arthuro, Romans have bitten the dust, nearly. Then finishing off Germania should be priority, and Macedon will have to be dealt with.... A tall order, but I'm sure you will have no problems .

    Chapter Four: Italia
    Part Five: Victory?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

It seemed clear. The Italian peninsula was soon to be ours. But it wasn't going to be so easy.

In the north the last Gallic tribe was surrounded and hided in their settlement. Two large Iberian armies were about to launch the assault.

Our cavalry stormed in attacking some skirmishers while our infantry prepared to enter the gate

    It was a short fight

After that we moved towards the center. When we got close some Gauls attacked

After killing them the general came

But there wasn't a real problem. Our superior and larger army defeated all who came to us. Just some small units left to kill

The Gauls were history. The Iberians came and took their place

But Italia still wasn't ours. Palben moved his army south to take Ariminum. However, he was attacked and was heavily outnumbered.

But Iberians don't retreat to soon. We steadily waited for them to arrive.

It was an intense fight and their general attacked our flank

Their artillery started to fire, killing as many Romans as Iberians

Our archers tried to hit the enemy general but failed

In the meantime our cavalry attacked their artillery

But we couldn't hold out to long against their majority

Not to long after this defeat we were about to take their capital. Rome was badly defended.

This was the city where the bureaucratic Romans debated for hours without coming to good military plans. It's clear their pathetic democracy doesn't work

We fought our way in, not facing a lot of resistance

We fought their cavalry in the streets

Just two more men to kill. Rome was ours!

We attacked a Roman armies that besieged our settlement

They were trapped. From two sides our large armies marched towards them

After a short fight the victory was ours

But now bad news reached us. Scouts saw a Macedonian army marching our way. Will our country ever experience peace before dominating all people?

A small Iberian force landed on Scandia and attacked a small settlement. A potential trade center

Those barbarians hardly resisted against our superior army

One of our armies in Italia was attacked

We waited for the enemy on a hill

The first Roman waves were killed

    And so was their general

    We attacked their artillery

Our soldiers were getting tired and lots lied dead

Our cavalry watched many of our men trying to leave the battlefield

It was another defeat. But we did weaken the Romans who eventually would have to give up fighting

Again one of our armies was attacked.

    We waited in the forest

    Their general fought our infantry

It came to a long hand to hand fight

But in the end our forces gave up again

    Some bad military years.
What we already expected, the Macedonians declared war

But we were still busy with the Romans. They just had two garrisons left and we were about to fight one of them

    We entered Ariminum

We charged and killed their captain

After that we marched to the city center

Some small resistance had to be dealt with

    Another city under our control

Arretium, the last city of the Romans

    Some legionary ran towards us

Many were killed by our missiles. They retreated to the center

    A long fight was next

The two enemy generals met each other.

One would die soon after that

But our soldiers were exhausted. We retreated to catch breath

    The Romans attacked

    But another Roman unit approached

Our soldiers couldn't handle anymore. They retreated

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The Romans were killed. No men of royal birth was left to lead their people. However, the city still wasn't ours.

The Etruscans, the previous civilization that lived here, took control again and entered the city

The city wasn't ours, but we did defeat the Romans. Just like the Carthaginians and the Gauls their territory now belonged to us. The Western Mediterranean was now completely under our control except for the settlement of the Etruscans. We could live with that and we would leave this people alone for a while.

But there was no peace. Iberians don't know peace. In the north their still was the never ending wars against the Germanic tribes, and in the east there was this new threat. The Macedonians control a very large empire and it would take a long time before the war between our people would end. The result was impossible to predict.

We also had a new internal task. The settlements we conquered from the Romans were still rebellious and it would take a long time before rest would return there. We were already busy building up our colonies but in Croton this failed. There the Lucanians took over the settlement. The weak garrison army wasn't able to prevent this

Uh-oh... Internal troubles suck majorly. At least Rome is gone... They sure gave you a headache in the last few battles. Italia needs some reinforcements against those stupid Maks.... Good luck Arthuro, congrats on getting the victory requirements.

It's very nice to read back this AAR. I totally forgot about it, but it was fun to write. Thank you all for your great comments, even two years after my last update! I don't remember why I stopped all of the sudden back then, a shame.
