Thread: Mounted Frankish Generals?

    Default Mounted Frankish Generals?

Does anyone know how I can replace the existing non mounted command unit with a mounted one? I know its a little early for Carolingian style cavalry but I cant get used to a non mounted commander on the battlefield for anyone but the Saxons.

Remove "command" and "general_unit" from attributes of Frankish foot units and add these attributes to either noble warriors frank or frankish paladin bodyguard

Shure? If there's any germanic tribe having mounted Generals, AFAIK its would be most probably the Franks. Or am I wrong?
By the way: In which file do you change the attributes?

actually, no. the franks fought for centuries on foot. they preffered to use the Fracesca, which is not excactly cavalry friendly in use. the germans who historically preferred the horse (the only ones to do so to my knowlege, except perhaps the langobardi), were the Goths. the Frankish cavalry is a late merovingian innovation, up until then, they had little in the way of cavalry. the Saxons, Vandals, and many other tribes were the same; they preferred foot to horse, since the latter was too expensive to many tribes. the saxons were still all infantry in 1066AD in hastings as an example.

Yeah, but did the noble men ride to war or fight unmounted?

I already answered that (on foot or on horseback was finiancially, and culturally corrolated). Clovis could easily have been on foot or horseback, though tradition favored foot, conveniance (and $), horseback.
