    Icon3 New Units Request << w/List (Updated 7/02/08)

    Okay, well many of you know that their are some units that are totally useless, and waste a spot for a much better and unique unit! Well I have put together a (small) list of units I think should be elimanted and replaced with better units. However for the moment, I do not know with what we should replaced these units! Maybe we should look for factions which dont have enough unique and special units?

    List of Units That Should Be Changed

    Siege Units;

    Ballista; Make one type for all factions, or one for western and another for Eastern factions, and make a lot more effective, include 3 in one unit, maybe add bouncing like in rome?

    Catapults; Make Two types, one for Western, one for Eastern, increase reload speed, maybe add the old bounce from Rome

    Trebuchet; Same as above, make two Unit Types, one for Western, one for Eastern.

    Mangonel; Same as the rest, one for Eastern and another for Western Factions

    All Cannons (Too many to list); Make them all have Two different types, eastern, and Western


    Ground Units;

    Peasants; Make two types of peasents, one for the Eastern Style factions, and another for the western factions

    Dismounted Arab Cavalry; Maybe replace them with Al Anduris Infantry which is not in the game but should be included absolutly, espcially for the moors, as pointed out by RollingWave.

    Teutonic Knights and Dismounted Teutonic Knights; These should be removed and replace by the Ritterbrüder, which were the true Teutonic Knights, and this change would also make this more Historically realistic.

    Clergymen (Teutonic Order); These should be elimanted, as they are extremely unrealistic, and barely effective, anyways, no one use them, right? they are basically just peasents with a fancy name, and wielding crosses instead of axes or small spikes. Cleergymen should be replaced with peasents and removed from the game.

    Water-Faring Units;

    No Units to put here yet...


    Now, Saying that all the aboved work was done, we would replace it with this, perhaps?

    We def need a range of boats. bif difference between a cog and a carrack

    otherwise change 2 english billmen (1 light / 1 light) to 2 halberdiers (1 light / 1 heavy)

    remove 2 english bowmen (leaving 3) and replace with 2 crossbowmen

    remove mounted french archers

    remove peasants from all factions (unless specialist units)

    I'd be inclined to agree with either removing ballistas or making them more effective against wooden walls.

    Well another unit which is pointless is the clegrymen in the Teutonic Oder, I think that they should elimanted also.

    Well everyone knows that there are several things that can be done to free up unit slots. But now the more important question is what to do with the slots that would be opened up? Kinda pointless to talk about unit slots without having anything to replace them.

    I agree with Caesar. Both our mods have removed some of those units, and replaced them with other things. Example: Both Caesar's Novgorod Roster and my Teutonic Order Mod have removed Teutonic Knights and Dismounted Teutonic Knights.

    We have also removed other units too, and replaced them with faction specific units. But Caesar's right, you have to replace them with something, or what's the point?

    there's a distinct lack of crossbows and handgunners for some factions that need to be addressed.

    albalestiers for some factions need to be added.

    Everything already mentioned sounds good.

    But i want Zweihänder renamed to Bidenhänder!

    removing ballistas might be a good idea even if you dont replace them simply because they're not very useful and the AI tends to spam them and create slow, slightly rubbish armies.

    I think "Ritterbrüder" is a bad name, because there are also other knight brethren than them, also it's the only non-anglisified name of a unit in the game (we could go the way of EB, I love it )

    So what. You didn't just went for the option and removed all the clone artillery, freeing up around 20 slots?

    Have you even looked in the descr_units? There is 5 pieces of EACH type of artillery. We could reduce it to one type for all.

    I hate those options you have and see no point of this. No offence.

    Why not just free up those 20 slots and fill them with some of Caesar Clivus novgorod units. And give the moors some aswell?

    I know but he talks about freeing up unit slots. There is 5 types of ballistae crew. Why remove it interely? Why not give all faction the same?
    Does it really matter if your eastern catapult crew looks like mercenarys?

    It is so obvious that this is what needs to be done.

    That way we get a lot of unit slots for all these cool new units we want.

    I am thinking of making this myself and adding some of the cool new novgorod units and some moors. And we wont even miss anything!!!
