This is a concept that's been used by a number of mod, but I want to especially thank Echad's version as a reference guide (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=141154).
The idea is to use the specific language the court of the faction would have used around the time. This is compounded by problems of regional dialects, non-ansi scripts, different transliterations, etc.
Here's the planed names
In parentethis are languages I want to use, but there wasn't able to find (mostly because there's no Old Norse wikipedia).
Need help on
- I would also to like to know if medieval Spanish/Aragonese/Catalan were very different from modern ones.
- I settled for modern German instead of trying to figure out which form of German the HRE court used. Any alternative with good reasoning would be appreciated.
Looking for someone that knows Old Norse (or maybe just Dansk/Norse and can find an Old Norse dictinoary) Thanks hekk- Cumans--Confederacy or Khanate? Anyone knows Kipchak turkish? It seems like they didn't have a solid political structure, making this bit hard.
- Balkan linquistic buff
Notes:
- Latin for Jerusalem to emphasize it being a "Latin Kingdom," though French was probably predominant
- French for Templars because their full Latin name is too long.
- Adjectives are in English, for consistency (the words "fortress" "spy" etc following these are in English)
Need inputs/opinions! I'm not expert on medieval linguistics, and a lot of the choices might be questionable.
