But does it change anything if you can recruit Fountain Guards only from Minas Tirith?
If the ZoR for Fountain Guards is limited to Minas Tirith, then the unit is only retrainable in Minas Tirith. Therefore one would be more likely to keep the Guard close to home.
Other than that, it's a matter of following the lore.
I have to disagree I think Gondor looks just as good if not better than the elves.

this looks sweet, are the rangers like sherwood archers in that they are good at hand to hand combat too?

Thanks again everyone.
Regarding the archers questions:
These units really are impressive. Will there be gondorian longbowmen like the ones in FATW?I suppose the Ithilien Rangers will be similar to longbowmen; Great range and damage but limited in melee. The Gondor Archers are medium skilled archers who are great in melee combat.KK, are those Ithilien Rangers "hybrid" -units? By that I mean that are they also quite strong with sword?
Yes, along with a new captain and general, of course.So... you will yet give us Gondor Spearmen and Dol Amroth Knights?
Thanks for convincing me, Eleril! You asked for it.Directly from the Lord of the Rings:If someone convinces me that they should be different, I may change this...
After Eleril's post I have actually no other choice to give them black cloaks.Well said. In my opinion, the Fountain Guards are the crown jewel unit in the Gondor faction preview. Please give them the black cloaks they're seen wearing in the LotR Motion Picture trilogy.
Anyway I have also used the pic you posted for reference, but isn't his a dark purple cloak he is wearing? I guess my eyes must be bad.
I think a phalanx type unit is not a bad idea and will certainly add to the strategic value of battles. Plus I think they look awesome.Agreed! What about using the feature from the Crusades campaign, and making Fountain Guards recruitable only when Minas Tirith is controlled?

Humm a two handed sword unit maybe ? XD

They look amazing.
I'm really looking forward to playing as Gondor.
Whaaaaat!! You sneaky gits! Not even a frontpage announcement. I've been scrolling around the forums for days and only now I saw these amazing units. Everyone in the team, amazing work

But the Ithilien Rangers were the ones in the movies, and books that were good at both. THey sould be good melee units.I suppose the Ithilien Rangers will be similar to longbowmen; Great range and damage but limited in melee. You're right, but Ithilien Rangers and Fountain Guards were elite soldiers of Gondor's army, only best were able to get in those positions.
Fountain Guards were elite, they were the defending the White Tree and the Kings Court so they'd want to be good. The Rangers weren't nessecaily (spl?) elite. They were recruited from descendants of those who lived on the eastern side of the Anduin before the invasion of Mordor. Some of them might have been elite through experience and training but mainly they mostly started as peasants
