    Default New unit changes

    Following on from the release of the Teutonic update I shall be releasing a small patch. This includes a few missing TGA's but is mostly a rebalance of the building tech tree, including a few small unit changes. This only effects eastern european factions. Northern european, southern european and middle eastern are already perfect so no changes to their buildings. Here is a run down of the main changes.

    Russia: Druzhina and Dismounted Druzhina are now the main stay of the Russian army. Russia now has a heavy cavalry unit from the knights stables onwards. Dismounted Druzhina are also buildable from castles at the drill square. This makes Russia (Kievan Rus) stronger and not so weak early on.

    Poland: Before Poland could only field missile cavalry at the start (Polish Nobles and Polish Shooters). I now give them a new unit "Polish retainers" so they have a strong cavalry unit able to fight Teutonic Order knights in close quarters (until they get Hussars).

    Denmark: Improved Huscarls stats slightly and improved unit recruitment of this unit. Svenner no longer recruited much by the AI. Also Dismounted Huscarls who have took the place of DFK for Denmark have their attack raised slightly.

    Lithuania: Bajorija now recruitable much earlier in the stables, Lithuania have a stronger cavalry unit which is able to counter Christ knights and Druzhina. Estonian rebels (spearmen) also improved slightly. As well as improved unit recruitment for this faction.

    Hungary: Now have a new unit "Hussars" to bolster their ranks even further.

    HRE: Imperial knights now available slightly earlier at the fortress. I have also given Gothic Knights back the same attack that they had in vanilla to make them the most unique units on the battlefield.

    Teutonic Order: Not much has been changed for this faction. Dismounted Halbruder have got a slight increase in morale. But I feel the TO are already strong enough. I did think about nerfing Order Spearmen even further and bringing them down to the level of other spearmen. But I've only reduced the charge down from 5 to 4. The Teutonic Order do not have that many heavy infantry units and they need Order Spearmen to be strong. Their tough starting position on the campaign map is another reason.

    This will be patch 3.1. The good news is I will not be reuploading version 3.0 again. The only reason that I updated version 3.0 before was because there were some serious problems with graphics and a few bugs. There are no issues in the current 3.0 version. This is just a small patch that fine tunes the mod and makes it even better balanced than before.

    Don't suppose you could add Sherwood Archers to the merc recruitment table for England in the Nottingham region? England's strength is supposedly their longbowmen, and yet the Turks have Janissary Archers with shortbows that appear to fire the same distance as longbows, and they do more damage than the best English longbowmen available in the campaign. The inclusion of the Sherwood Archers as recruitable mercs would offset this discrepency. While Sherwood Archers do the most damage of any archer unit in the game, their lack of any defence and half the men of normal archer units balances them out.

    @Max Outrider,

    The British Isles were already rebalanced in version 2.0 and are not the focus of this patch. Version 3.0 of kingdoms grand campaign mod was a huge update focused mostly on adding the TO and Lithuania to eastern europe. Therefore I am only concerned about making sure that each faction is well balanced in the Baltic area. If you want Sherwood Archers Mercs added that is only a personal request and not anything to do with this patch.

    Hey, I made one change of my own to the byzantine roster. I changed the defense/attack of the byzantine spearmen to the same as that of Sargent spearmen. I think it adds a dependable unit to the roster, because I always have issues with the empire not being able to hold a line with out terrible losses.

    All of this sound good.
    Just one thing about Imperial Knights for HRE: you make them recruitable at the baron's stables, in the same time as the feudal knights. I think HRE will never recruit feudal knights, and will have an advantage against other factions, which have only feudal knights with baron's stables. Imperial knights are plate-armor-units, I think it was right to make them recruitable with earl's stable, at the same time with other chivalric knights for other factions.

    I just felt that HRE should have a bit of an edge on smaller neighbouring factions like Venice and Milan at fortess level stables. Also both Poland and Hungary now have Hussars which are not as well armoured (but have better attack and morale). And about the AI not recruiting feudal knights anymore, that wont happen after these changes.. The recruit_priority_offset is set at 15 for feudal knights and 20 for imperial knights. Thats a very small difference.

    HRE is one of the strongest factions in the whole campaign and this should be reflected in their units. Everything should not be a perfect balance with every faction. However I am also thinking of a change to the french now who should also have a unit better than feudal knights at this stage. Gendarmes, currently only buildable from the officers academy, but I will add them to fortress stables as well. What do you think of this idea?

    Hmm, you know that I am a big "all-units-have-the-same-look-at-the-same-time" fan, and I don't like to see plate-armor-units like Imperial knights or Gendarmes amongst feudal knights. And I'm not convinced by earlier hussars. But you can think that I'm totally psycho . Current roster is fine for me, but you're the boss, Dave.

At the start they have only Christ Knights, which are quite good but not invincible, and vanilla teutonic knights, as HRE.

    A last word: ritterbrüder aren't so good compare to other late-era-cavalery-units: 11/7/17 like the others. They could perhaps be 12/7/17, for example.
    2nd last word: you speak about french units, I think the lancers are too weak: 11/7/14 with their full plate armor, they should be, I think, 11/7/15 like gothic knights, even 11/7/16. They are currently unemployed by the French, with low statistics and recruitment priority low too.

    Nope, I didn't just panic and see the Teutonic Order as "being to powerful", but the other factions as not being strong enough! For example before Lithuania only had Kazaks and Tartar Lancers at castle stables (which to put it mildly are rubbish). I've better balanced Lithuania by putting Bajorija at knights stables. Russia should have a strong unit roster from the start and having Druzhina at the same level as feudal knights reflects this. Like I already said about Poland they only had missile cavalry before, so is giving them retainers not a good change? Anyway I dont quite understand what you mean because even Christ knights have better armour than Druzina, Bajorija and retainers. Not to mention Halbbruders being even stronger which you failed to mention..

    p.s. I already increased ritterbruder stats back up to 11/7/18.

    OK, you're right at all. It's normal that TO units, especially cavalery, are better, but neighbours should have good units too. Druzhina as the same time with feudal knights is good. Bajorija with knights stables too. Retainers is ok, altough I think that Polish nobles are pretty good: missile cavalery, yes, but worthy in hand-to-hand fight.
    No, the only thing I didn't love was plate units like Imperial knights or gendarmes as the same time with feudal knights. Because in 13 th century all the knights, german, italian, french or english were like game's feudal knights, and with plate armors in 14th century the differents nations start to had different armies. But that's my historic vision, I know it's just a game.

    Thanks Blackader, I knew you would come around to my changes eventually The objective of these unit changes are simple.. to have even better battles with more balanced units than ever before as well as tweaked AI recruitment. I am hoping that all of this will help to make my mod even more enjoyable. And having 1 or 2 plate armoured knights start to appear at the fortress level is not that bad.
