    Icon10 Kind of morbid, but... Anyway to make females die sooner?

    LOL. Yeah... Not trying to be sexist or anything but I'm finding I have a whole lot of widows just hogging up "family" slots in my tree. Since births are some how tied to amount of provinces/generals/princess I'm finding that after a while widows begin to cluster up the birth ratio and I often have to wait for one of them to die before another family member is born.

    Last night was when I really "noticed" the problem. I had 6 widows and 4 families without any children. All of the widows were finally getting ready to croak and sure enough a few turns later all of them were dead. Lo-and-behold after all of the old bags were dead each family had a kid, two of them even had two kids one turn after the other.

    So yeah, those women need to die faster I don't mind them living till 65 when they have a husband, but the fact is that usually their husband dies because of battle. Then you're stuck with a useless widow that sucks up a family slot until she croaks around 65. The thing is sometimes you can be left with a widow as young as 20 if you get dealt a bad hand of cards.

    So is there anyway to make it so women can only live till around 50-55? I was thinking in the "descr_campaign_db" adding this line "old_age_female" but I have honestly no idea if it would work.

    Any clues?

    females live longer than males as a general rule of thumb.

    You can change their "retirement" age to 2, which will in essence give you all sons. This clears a spot, and if the mother is young enough to have more children, she can.

    I have a similar problem. The cousins to the Komnenos throne are all 40 something bachelors with no prospects because my 3rd and 4th family tree line is full of unmarried maids.

    I've pretty much having the same problem with Novgorod. Lots of daughters, few sons. Perhaps it's something in the water? :hmmm:

    I'm still waiting for Istvan to have a son but he's getting on in years now and so is his wife.

    It is really infuriating. I have 40 some odd settlements, and we're closing in on 1400, so its getting rather late in the game. I have 24 generals and really not many more sons on the way, yet no new children are being born. I'm hoping my next population explosion will come soon.

    Anyone know any adverse affects of altering this line?

    <max_number_of_children uint="4"/>

    I'm pretty sure if you increase it past 4 the game CTDs when a 5th child is born. That or it just doesn't start at all.

    I use 3 without any issues. It helps a bit when it comes to child birth, but not to much.

    Well the default is 4

    And really i'm not going to bother getting into a campaign only to find it's buggered... I'm quite sure if it worked we would have heard about it by now

    Well I've been running with 3 children per couple for over a 200 turn game if that's any consolation. Not sure if increasing it will break the game though. It won't help with child birth ratios that for sure. You'll end up with tons of families but no children because all the "family slots" are filled by the many family members.

    Open the descr_campaign_db in the data folder. Open the root directory, then find the family_tree string and you'll see...
    <daughters_retirement_age uint="45"/>

    Change the 45 to a 2 and there you go. I've never done this so I'm not sure how it works. Though if Darviathar says it works...

    *Edit*
    Oh and neither old_age_for_female or max_age_for_female work :/

    The family system is absolutely appauling. I doubt much can be done about it however, it's probably hardcoded.

    The system should just work like real life children production (wierdest term ever conceived?). Now you might think we have to have sheiteloads of generals as a resoult. My idea is to simply make it so you recruit eligble family members from your family tree as generals whenever you need them. The remaining boys/men aren't actually in the game as generals.

    This would mean you had a completely normal family tree without the constant worries of your royal line ending because of some stupid widow refusing to die.

    btw, is there a spellingtester on these boards?

    I changed daughter's retirement age to 5 (for a little more spacing of ages between sons). I got sick of having girl after girl (I need sons, dammit!) and then getting spammed with marriage offers from drunken bums and all the CPU princesses sitting outside my settlements turn after turn doing their little dance.

    I also think it sucks that the game freezes you from having kids until you expand. Hardly realistic that my women won't have kids just because I haven't conquered another province. I know in the old game, there was a console command that you could input that would force your king's wife to have a son, but I know of no such command in M2TW.
