  1. #1

    Default modification software

    The course poll results show a strong interest in texturing i am now willing to say i will be running a course in Texturing models for battle and the campaign map what i need to know from you is what software to run these tutorials in? the choice comes down to photoshop or milkshape?. I have experience in photoshop and texturing if you decide milkshape then i will take alittle more time to train myself in this software package as i would like get the ball rolling please share your views here.

    Thanks i quess the first class would be making sure the software is set up right, what i mean everyone as the right DSS plug-ins, unpacked the files and have the correct configuration settings in the CFG file.

    this is a texture i knocked up in 5 minutes for a knight he now as real looking Norman chain mail taken from an actually photo he would look better with a Norman helmet i must admit.

    @Empress Meg by the way congrats on your recent promotion.

    Oh cool. I've never worked with M2TW textures before, you have to be much better then I to work with that kind of detail! This'll be fun. If you will be teaching us M2TW items, do I need anything else besides a newer version of 3D-max and PS?

    @J@mes Thanks!

    (sorry by mistake i accidentally edited your post must learn to stop clicking the edit button)

    no you will just need the NVIDIA DDS Plugs-in i am currently using PS C2 but i don't think it really matters we could use 3D max studio to create new Helmets, belts, and weapons.

    but the best effects for detail are actually photos as the picture above demonstrates real chain mail.

    This class will cover how to

    Texture a unit
    create a new weapon and texture it

    but i must keep the class goal to something that is achievable to all students.

    well i just normally use a template and use photoshop layers to create the UV map layouts. i will take a look at those program you mentioned there.

    The only reason I didn't use Photoshop was because doesn't it cost money to buy the full version? CAll me a cheapskate, but I don't see much difference between it and Gimp

    gimp is just as good as Photoshop, gimp has the layers, alpha channels, and a robust plugin architecture. but layers will be our prime tool for the class.
