Just checking in advance, do you need the previous versions of KotS to use the coming version? or is it a single download? Aslo, is it in a mod folder?

Hi Plonkdog,
You will not need a previous version of KotS to install the new version. The final install method is still under discussion but it will result in a KotS mod folder as before.
will installation be easier than the version2.2 was
Sorry Dragons' Warrior, I've actually been doing the unthinkable and deniable (working long and hard) for the best part of 9 days.
Yes it will be, there will most likely be 2 installastions which will completely either be installed anew or be installed over your current 2.2 version.will installation be easier than the version2.2 was
1 version will be 1GB (Full Install) and the other will be 300MB's or so, for the experienced user.
soz my hard working friend thats good to no good luck for the completion
I am going help my younger cousin install this, but I wanted to know if we will still need to "unpack" the the original Text folder like we did for the earlier version. I will be at his house tonight (GMT-8) so if the answer is yes, I can at least unpack it for him so he easily download install the mod file once it is released.
The version 3 download will include the text folder and UI folder which can be added to a packed main data folder. No need to unpack anything!
Is there a benefit or disadvantage by unpacking or keeping it pack. Like does the game run faster or anything if its unpacked?
War... war never changes.
Keeping your British_isles folder and MTW2/data folder packed saves you hard-drive space. I don't think its any faster but I'm not sure.
It only makes it faster by keeping your files packed, if you are running out of room on the hard drive. For example, windows requires a certain amount of space to operate effectively. If you don't leave 11% or more Windows will randomly crash when pushed to the limit by high end games...or it will be very very sluggish.
i had kingdoms unpatached and it worked for me
altought it might crash if i play a fort siege, but im so advanced on the campaign i don't want to patch it, until i finish my campaign

Now I'm a bit confused, so I can leave both the mtw2 packed and the british isles packed as well and then install the mod over the british isles packed as long as it says 'kingdomofscots'. and then add the compressed files i'm suppose to to the appropriate directory? Cause if what swagger says is true I'd rather keep them packed, plus saves room for other games, porn, music, etc.

Hi Muzz,
You can keep the main MTW2 packed if you add the text folder and UI folder from the zip files to the main data folder.
If you want to keep your british_isles folder packed then make a copy first then unpack it. Rename the unpacked version kingdomofthescots and rename the packed copy to british_isles.
The installer automatically overwrites the files in the kingdomofthescots folder.
You have to install over an unpacked copy of Britannia. I can't remember why exactly but Kingdoms won't work properly with new units etc. if there are packed files present. You could try installing over a packed version of the british_isles and see if it works but I doubt it!

Seems ive taken the wrong road somewhere during Installation, I have very... very minimal text is the game. The Load Screens, Faction Selection etc was fine. But on the map- well; I've got Region, Town and Castle names, aswell as units, but no stats, Building names etc.
Where have I gone wrong?
edit:
I never found any desc_geography_new files in my M2 folder; so none were deleted there. I did delete the british_isles ones though.
If there are no desc_geography_new files in the main data folder then it is not unpacked which is fine if you add both the text folder and the UI folder provided in the zips. This should cure your interface problems.
Thanks Bruce, I forgot how it went when I installed 2.0. I'll hopefully give it a try soon.
