For an enumeration of the problems, read this thread. I don't think Count Zimoa got all of them, though .

Indeed, you can see from the get-go, the RTW engine is unable to cope with the style of warfare used during this period. Of course, some of the MP players are as well, but at least we give it a go. The main issue with the AI that i have noticed when trying to do balance tests using the AI as a partner, is that it would rather charge then fire its firearms. It thinks its musketeers are still Roman legions or Greek hoplites and thus uses them as if their muskets were merely secondary. I've heard a few other weird things as well, but that is why I experience when I play a few SP games for testing purposes.

Play around with things though, check stuff out. I am curious though, since you say that you aren't a modder, how you might have solved the issue?

Treshoun if you make a campaign map I'm not gonna discourage you, i would really enjoy a map for this mod but it wont work well with rtw engine.

NTW2 was made for MP battles. SP games are not suggested, for the reasons sated above and in numerous other threads on this forum, the Org, various clansites and our offical site.

Try the lobby, I am sure you'll have a ton more fun.

    Great One,

you raised some valid points in the other thread. I've actually seen Roman mods that oddly, use heavy infantry as skirmishers/missile troops and that use missile cavalry as heavy cavalry.

Point being that I've seen in action what you were suggesting. The Lordz have stated time and again since the 1.0 release that they're done modding NTW2, so don't go barking up a tree. Especially if there's no cat to bark at up there

There's a few text files you'd have to edit. Also, you'd need your map. The RTW map would be ok, you'd have to make more historically accurate regions and read up on city placement, etc, then the descr_strat, etc.

There's a text file of sorts that designates what's on the main menu. If campaign is not there, you can't access the camp map- thus no CTD's since there's no campaign.

After that, you will need a new building tree, and hopefully someone to model buildings for you (see if perhaps Chivalry or Crusades have done so, as medieval buildings are at least better than Roman ones for the 1800's). Recruitment, etc, will all need worked out as well. These are all things- not minor things either- that you will need to do.

Once all that is done, the changes you have stated can be made will be easy. It's a few text edits that you will have to work through a few CTD's with, but all in all, it's easy work. The text for the campaign will be, honestly, dog work... I'd see if I couldn't get some help from an experienced mapper in exchange for helping his team with coding/text editing or something.

It can be done, but it will take a ton of work and realizing the AI are not going to be as good as MP.

I will send you a PM with some more advice, too detailed for here. This is just for everyone, and I'll edit with exact text files when I'm home to find them.
Please buy SGTW2 and help a money hungry game company line their pockets and ensure another TW title with no modding, lacking even the basics of completion and make sure nobody makes them feel bad about it... it hurts their feelings and brings on lawsuits. Thanks.

Plenty of cats Horton, they just know better than to waste their time

Good luck with your endeavors Greatone, and Horton. I look forward to seeing whatever it is you'll make.

I just meant if there's no reason to bark up it...

But anyhow, will be interesting. Also, see if you can get a hold of Warluster, who was planning on doing some stuff with a camp map, and if that turns up nothing (which it very well may) look into the team stuff. You can never ask too many questions.

Warluster has been gone for some time. I don't recall the last time he posted on the Lordz site or the Org. I think he was here at the TWC in May but hasn't returned since.
