Thread: Polish Piast Nobles shields

    Default Polish Piast Nobles shields

Hi, I find the look of Polish Piast Nobles and their dismounted version shields terrible. The red-white-blue stripes simply look stupid. I doubt if any noble would paint his shield this way. A noble should have his family crest painted on the shield. Thus, I did some searching in the internet and found some interesting Polish crests schemes: http://zamki.res.pl/herby.htm http://www.herby.umk.pl/wystawa/rody/
It would cool to see these on the shields of Polish nobility. Since I don't know how to mode I'm looking for someone who has some spare time and the skill to do it.

Hm, guess I will have to try and do it myself. Tips on changing shield painting would be appreciated.

The second link shows lithuanian not polish coat of arms/crest/heraldry whatever you can call it. And i dont know why but the first link doesnt show any pictures.

So (while being bored at work) i searched for some links for anyone whou would like to take care of it:
    first
There is also some polish guy who has been collecting information about many other coats of arms:
    polish
    more polish
    templar
    teutonic knights
maltanese order knights (also known as joannites or hospitalers )

    hope this helps

If it's a vanilla file that is unchanged by SS you'll need to unpack it first using the unpacker tool in M2TW\tools\unpacker. So you dont stuff up your game you'll want to unpack the files into a different directory and you might want to just get the .texture files to save on hard disk space. Use the following in a .bat file to run the unpacker to do this:

    Code:
    unpacker.exe --source=..\..\packs\*.pack --destination=c:\packs\ --filter=*.texture --verbosity=1

And what if my vanilla file is changed by SS? Becouse I got SS 6.0 installed. Can I still open the texture files the way you described? And one more question, what is a .bat file and where can I find one?

    Thanks

You have to create a .bat file, edit it and put copy/paste this line.

If the vanilla file for the shields has been changed by SS, then it will be somewhere in the Stainless_Steel_6\data\unit_models\attachmentsets directory. If it isn't there, then the game will still used the packed version and you will have to unpack it using the method I described above.

And one more question, what is a .bat file and where can I find one?
You need to make a new text file using notepad in the unpacker directory, copy and past the line of code I posted above and save it with a .bat file. Then double click on the file to run the unpacker.

edit: I just had a look in the attachmentsets directory and I couldn't find the file that the Piast Nobles use so it will have to be unpacked

Just edited few shields, but now they look, well amateur and fresh painted, I haven't tried them out in the game yet. Do you know how I can make them look a bit "used up"?

    Hi,

There is already such mod by Burreck... and its great. I think thats DLV use it.

Rany napisze po naszemu, bo jak zwykle mojej angielszczyzny nikt nie zrozumie... Poniżej podaje linki do najczęściej widywanych tarcz na polach bitewnych XV w. w których wykrwawiali się nasi pradziadowie:

XV w ponieważ herby weszły do Polski dość późno... moda z zachodu.

Generalnie przeważają niebieskie i czerwone tła.

Thanks Monthy I will inplement few of your creascents, and I realise that this mode won't be historically accurate but the whole unit isn't historically accurate (they should be armed with swords insted of spears).
