Thread: Saxony(Sachsen), Germany

    Default Saxony(Sachsen), Germany

I have been to Saxony twice and both times I have really liked it. Dresden is one of my favorite cities in the world and the countryside is unlike any other in Europe. Yet, for some reason no one goes to Saxony. Whenever I tell people I went to Saxony they say, "Oh, okay" or "Did you go to Berlin/Munich/Hamburg/Frankfurt too?"

Have any of you guys been to Saxony and what do you think? I have only been to Dresden and the area around it. I was ondering if Leipzig is nice too?

I went to Saxony once to Dresden too. It's a pretty cool town, but Saxony is also one of the poorest states in FDR. That's probably why people don't go. That and that whole former DDR thing too. West Germans even call the former DDR Dunkel Deutschland!

We went by train from Thuringia and passed though many of the small villages dotting the landscape. Looked like something straight outta bombed Belgrade.

I went a year ago. To Dresden. The center of the city is amazing, all the buildings are black because of the smoke of the bombings in WWII.

Lots of Japanese tourists in Germany was well. In every damn city, I saw the same people!

In view of our divine essence, we need only liberty and work; in view of our mortal nature, we need for our direction a guide and a support. A government is not then, as a distinguished economist has said, a necessary ulcer; it is rather the beneficent motive power of all social organisation.

That's the real existing socialism and its results for you.
You can even see some of this in the more important cities, like Leipzig or Weimar.
Still remember that small church when I attended the GC, looked like it was deserted since the 30 years war.

A good reason for not visiting saxony might also be the dialect.
