I don't convert my images from the Fraps screenshots and they turn out just fine. I just use paint to edit them if I need to. If file size or something else is the issue I don't really have any suggestions as I'm not overly tech savvy myself, though you may try Mendicant Bias's advice.

Aha! opening and then saving as .jpeg files in GIMP totally worked!

The king finally died and left the crown of king of Macedonia in the capable hands of Gyras Nikator, the Victor. Also, influence boosts from studying left the guy in Halicarnassus with the position of Faction Heir. And he is going to have to earn that position...

...Mainly by giving really obvious answers to questions.

You'll see why I didn't even consider accepting in a second.

Anyway, I - oh, crap, Pontics.

They're a bit lost, but the local garrison is understrength. If they attack and get reinforced...

...Wait, what? Erm... sure. Whatever lets me arm up in preparation for your sudden yet inevitable betrayal, lads.

We need more people with command talent. More family members capable of leading armies. Men with personality, distinct skills and-

...What the flying hug is up with this guy? Anyone ever seen someone like that before?

    Ahem. The battle. Yes.

Here's the Seleucid army that's attacking. I find it hilarious that the captain passed up hiding in a unit of near-unkillable Thorakitai (for my phalax, at least) or sitting on top of a massively powerful pachyderm for joining a unit of dudes on horseback with paper-thin armour and four men to its name.

The phalanxes begin to settle in for the long haul. They exhaust really easily, but it has virtually no effect on their effective killing speed. Funny, that.

I'd like to see the unit of infantry that can breeze past this.

    Keep these guys in mind.

The Seleucids send in the beasts of war.

Oh god, the carnage. The delicious, pachyderm-tastic carnage!

    ...Never mind.

But hey, here come the Seleucids in force. This isn't looking good for me...

Phalangist: I can't see the enemy!
Unit Captain: Just keep stabbing through the elephant's corpse, lad, they're in there somewhere.

    Phalangist:

Okay then, something's definitely going wrong at the other entrance. This is going too well.

    ...Hmm. Strange.

    Anything back there, guys?

    No?

    Wonder what's keeping them...

They lost 86% of their army, without me sending cavalry out to pursue them. I lost 1%.

They'll be back. They're slow learners.

It has been a pretty long time since anyone has posted something here, which is a shame I think, as I used to enjoy seeing some awesome campaigns. So I thought I'd post my current campaign, hoping others will follow.

This is perhaps the weirdest campaign I've ever had (even weirder than my Seleucid campaigns in which I fled to Egypt as all my cities fell one by one (except for Seleucia and Antioch)).

    Anyhow here it is:

After crushing Pyrrhus and the rebels everything went just fine. I conquered Italy, Corsica, Sardinia and Carthage and Hadrumetum. So far so good. But then suddenly massive armies of Macedon started invading Italy, conquering Patavium and Mediolanium (with some help of the Gauls), and besieging Arretium and Ariminum. I didn't make any money anymore. Things were looking bleek. But then suddenly (still don't know why) I started making money and was able to get the Macedonians out of Italy, Greece and Macedon. The rest was quite normal, except I was really making lots and lots of money.

Soon I had already conquered almost everything in the Roman Empire west of Byzantium.
There were three mayor empires left: Scythia, TSE, and me of course. Scythia had conquered all of Germania, Thrace and the steppe lands. TSE controlled everything in the east starting from Asia Minor and Cyrene. I was fighting an intense war against the Scythians, which I was winning obviously, when TSE started besieging Byzantium. Luckily I was able to get peace with them every turn ( thank you, diplomats (TSE was really strong and my most important trade partner)) and through an alliance with Bactria, Scythia became neutral.

Now, I have never declared war myself (I never do), but all my armies were in Scythian territories (I was convinced they would attack me soon (which they didn't), whilst TSE kept besieging me (and accepting peace). I managed to get some Scythian cities to rebel (again, thank you diplomats and assassins) which I promptly conquered. But then I tried assassinating some family member, my assassin died and there was war again. Great.

As I was happy with the peace and trade with TSE, I didn't want to attack them, but I wanted their lands. So I bought them (48 cities if I counted it correctly). Luckily I had more than a million denarii, and was making about 50,000 denarii every turn.

And that's were I am now.

I still haven't conquered any cities of TSE, just bought them. But now they stopped accepting my peace offers. Luckily their economy is not doing well. They still have a large part of the armies they had, but have less cities to support them and the million+ denarii are already spent.

So that's the story of my campaign now.

    PS:
I've got two temples in Messana. When I conquered it there were two shrines to Mars, but I could only upgrade one, so I tried demolishing the other and I was able to build other shrines. So now I have two very large temples to Mars and Neptune (Messana has only very recently become a hugh city).
Is that supposed to be possible (two temples)?

Hey, nice empire! (Although the buying-your-opponents tends to remind me of my little brothers' approach to vanilla Medieval 2.)

As for my recent inactivity, erm, whoops? I'll see if I can find some time in between doing my AAR to post updates on my Macedonian campaign.

    Hi all,

thanks for all the nice comments.

So anyways, here's another update on my Roman campaign.

As you can see, I'm pretty much in control of the world, my economy is doing great (never had so much money at the end of a campaign (at this stage I usually have about -200000 denarii)),
and all my subjects are happy and are taught civilisation.

Only those filthy barbarian Scythians are left and could be somewhat of a problem. (I didn't anticipate they would horde, but luckily I've got some legions in the region.)

TSE is just about defeated and the rebel cities will soon be conquered too.

    So in short:
    Rome: Total Ownage.

I used to have about 1.5 million denarii, but as your empire grows, so does corruption.
I lose about half a million denarii per turn to it. (That's more than the cost of maintaining my armies!)

But anyhow, I (probably) said that "my economy is doing great"thingy because not so long ago I had about 500000 denarii and in really no time at all (say 20 turns) I only had 50000 denarii left, but after investing in trade and farming I'm finally earning some money again.

Use Fraps to take a pic, upload it to somewhere like Imageshack then embed the forum URL here.

Here are some screenshots from my CARTHAGIAN EMPIRE. I have played this campaign over 30 days.

    Gallic Provinces

As you can see all the Iberians and Numidians are under the Carthaginian rule, and I left Romans just one settlement (Iuvanum) as a useful buffer state. I couldnīt decide what would be a good and short northern frontier against the Gauls, and so I needed to give the decisive blow. When I continued the campaign today, those Germanic tribes conquered the last Roman city near the Alps, and they have also hit hard againt the Gauls. Carthago and Germania are still allies, but who knows how long...

    Italic Provinces

In Italy I have used Capua as the main retraining centre for better weapons and armour. Otherwise have mainly recruited Greek Hoplites from Syracuse and Tarentum and Italic Spearmen and Italic Infantry from Cannae and Ariminum. Those cities have nice experience bonunes. But my favourite unit in this game has been Libyan Spearmen that usually form the last offensive and defensive line in the army. Besides Numidian Cavalry, Numibian Archers and Balearic Slingers have been in heavy duty.

    Macedonian Front

At moment the most active front is against the Macedonians. I have concentrate the most deadly units like War Elephants and Onagers for this part of Empire. As you can see on the map I lost temporarily Singidunum for Thracian rebels but I gained it back and I had to use Faction Leader as a Governor to keep that city in control.

At the moment Pella is heavily defended by Macedonians with some nasty units like Foot Companions and Hypaspits, so most likely I have to persuade them to fight on the open field battle.

Actually, next move is probably attack against those cities in western Greece. I am planning to stabilize my positions north from Pella and weaken Macedonian presence in other Greek cities. There has been a persistent plague in several Macedonian cities.

In the east, the Seleucid and the Ptolemaic Empires are still alive and well, but the biggest winner seems to be Armenia that has conquered Scythian regions and half of Asia Minor.

    Nice!

Also, interesting to see Germania has conquered Britain.
But I feel sad for Rome.

So another update (last one) on my Roman campaign then!

The image speaks for itself: there is nothing left to conquer.
Destroyed TSE and Scythia at just the right time as my economy started collapsing something like 3 turns ago.

    But anyway,

    Roma Victor!!

Now I'm off to (finally) play heg.
