I got L.A. Noire in the Steam sale and I have a question; does being a horrible driver take any 'points' away from game completion?

I ask because, despite my controlling a character who is supposed to be a police officer, I cannot go a block without knocking over a street lamp or running over hapless pedestrians. Does the game register them at all? Is it possible for me to become jailed? It's a fun enough game but my vehicle handling really is exceptionally bad.

It affects your mission ranking, yes. Make sure to drive carefully when working on a case otherwise due to poor conduct you won't be able to score a 5 star rank. As as alternative you can hold the enter vehicle button and let your partner drive, which will skip directly to your destination.

Later on when a case file is done you can drive the vehicle in the free roam mode. And yes their is a stat log in it which records every character details & no you can't be jailed because you're cole phelps, LA's finest detective.

Will I miss street crimes if my partner drives?

Yes you will because he drives straight to the destination set. Street crimes are something you should do in free roam. In any case you can also do one thing, when you're driving the street crimes are reported almost instantly, so take the dispatch call, hop out of the car and then let your partner drive there.

Yes some fast cars are a bit cumbersome to handle but it's not a problem, drive them using the combination of handbrake and it will be no big deal. And lol you don't know gamepad? Blasphemy!

If you're using a keyboard to drive a car then use W to accelerate, S for brake or reverse and left\right arrows for direction that way you get to use your both hands while driving.
