Except I've been finding all video games not fun recently. Though perhaps I am just in a funk in general.

I feel the same, unfortunately....

My three year long (shameless) obsession with LOTRO is coming to a sad and what I consider to be premature end. I could talk your ears off for hours about why, but I'll spare you. I recently tried minecraft and after about an hour became pretty bored with it. Its a Farmville kind of tedious.

I know, and I think its very malicious.

But not malicious enough to be taught in colleges.
Man, they were some lectures, real eye-openers. I swear I never trusted a salesman after college.

Oh I think CA has all but shut the door on modders.

Which I don't think it wise, as it removes a plus point. Makes customers want to say Meh... why should I buy it when it doesn't even has the luxury of mods, which is in essence equivalent to a free new game.

I got Shogun 2 about six months after the release for about...30-40 bucks I think? I enjoyed Shogun 2 besides the ridiculously aggressive AI factions suddenly owning half of Japan by about 50 turns in. I like to build slowly and expand, but by the time I've got about 9 provinces some mega faction is like "lulz let's go crush dis nuub" and then its curtains.

I know, never thought it would be like this with any total war game after Rome, BI, and M2TW. But I sincerely regretted buying ETW. The American story playable only once, and even grand campaign there starts near the end date. The European factions are okay, not that super exciting. The eastern factions, a near disaster. Not only were the Marathas portrayed inaccurately and stereotypically, the whole thing itself was something like an insult to their legacy.

In short, that was the last blind purchase. Rome 2? No way, no sah... I will wait some months, read reviews, see available and developing mods, and maybe then make the purchase.

That's marketing strategy. Sadly, a similar thing that has developed in recent times is to reduce the quality of the products so consumers will be forced to buy more.

No, like I go back to games that are my all-time favorites and feel bored. It's like I've grown tired of the video game industry, good and bad, as a whole: past, present, and future. My usual tendency of achievement hunting has even become tedious of late, though that's mostly because I require the assistance of other players and I cannot find it.

Come Ponti, let us renew our since of wonder once more. A game to truly rekindle the flame of gaming. Something not made by EA preferably.

To be fair I doubt its CA closing the door, more like SEGA.

Well if CA/SEGA is really closing down on mods they can simple hardcoded everything in the games that they have released. They surely can easily issue a cease and desist order to unit pack mods which is released together during the time they released their own unit pack DLCs.

I am playing some WARHAMMER mod. I don't know a thing about the lore but it's one of the few mods with female armor that isn't STURDY WOOLEN DRESS or LINEN TUNIC.

Concerning big companies hindering modding, I have to add this quote from a modder of the Skyrime LotR Mod that was closed down by Warner Brothers, some time back;

Look, in our communications with WB we never brought any other mod up (not even non lotr mods). I know this for sure. And quite frankly, WB doesn't even seem to understand what a mod actually is. Not even now, lol. First they thought we were some kind of online roleplaying game. We tried to explain to them what a mod is (without referencing other mods, to protect them) and I'm not sure they understand still. Hell, they even don't understand what "gameplay" is. They were using the term "gameplay" like this: "...the gameplay for this project has to stop..."

I have a feeling Lawyers Rule Supreme, hahaha

As engineering company needs to be run by engineers so is gaming company needs to be run by gamers/game developers. This is what you'll get when running a game developer is run by lawyers.
