    Default Direct X problem

    Hey guys,

Up until now, I've always played Roma Surrectum with the 1.10b, 1.5 Upgrade and 1.5 FIXES edition of RS. Recently, my friend and I want to play RS online, but he has 1.5a, so it's a bit different. Therefore, I deleted my old RS folder, made a copy of the RTW Vanilla file, then installed 1.5a into it.

Now, I always play my RTW in a window, so I can do other stuff when I'm waiting for stuff in game to load or something. I do this by adding "-ne" to the end of the shortcut. However, everytime I install RS 1.5a on a copy of the RTW Vanilla, then add the "-ne" to the shortcut, it comes up with a message saying "Rome Total War could not find DirectX 9 which is needed for the game to run. Please reinstall DirectX". Yet RTW Vanilla works fine playing in a window

I've reinstalled RTW and copied the files and installed RS twice now and it comes up with the same problem, with nothing wrong with my other mods. Can someone give me a solution to this problem?

Who knows but try running the directx installer again and see if that helps.

I don't have the installer. Maybe I should download it again? What I'm really confused about is just why Vanilla works but RS doesnt.

RTW works in strange and wonderous ways, just try reinstalling direct X, whic should hopefully solve it.

I've had other games where weird things happened requiring a directx re-install.

Never had that happen, and I have dozens of copies of RTW. Try uninstalling RTW (the vanilla version), and then reinstalling it. It may be that it 'works', but if something got goofed up in the registry, who knows.

Or better yet, copy the Vanilla version to another folder called 'Rome_Vanilla' or something, and install RS1.5a into the RTW install of vanilla. If it doesn't work then, you've got a problem.
