Just got HoI2: Doomsday

Okay, so I just got the game today and I'm already having trouble

. I started out as Germany and began buildin up a bit. I eventually attacked Poland and got my ass handed to me right away. What did I do wrong? Is there more to warfare than I thought? What should I do when waging war against someone?

P.S. Don't laugh, but this was on Easy/Weakling too

Could need a little more info. What did you research? What did you produce?

A common newbie mistake is to assign too many troops to a leader, you
need to promote leaders for them to fight effectively with more troops.
Support attack/defense should be used alot.
Try to encircle enemy units when you can. Motorized/mechanised/armored troops will help you alot with this.
Close air support (interdiction) will wear down enemy unit morale, making it easier for your ground troops to advance.
Land doctrine research should take priority over any other research.
Attacking in winter/night/provinces separated by rivers will give you penalties.

That's all I can think of.

Yeah thanks for the tips, the tip about assigning too many troops to one general was my problem.

I restarted my campaign (As England) and began at somewhat slower pace, teching up and building some factories. But the thing that's ticking me off is how long it takes to produce units/factories. I mean by the time I finish building a few factories 2-3 years are done...Wtf? Does this become faster by doing certain techs? Or what?

I think I'm starting to get a hang of the rest of the stuff though. Mind explaining the support att/def method? The stupid training didn't tell me why I should use it...

Anyway, think that's it....

I have this game for 2 years now but idea of playing as UK still sounds terrifying

Better try again as Nazis. UK is management hell.
And read the manual that helps a lot.

I never build factories with high IC nations like Uk, Germany, SU, etc. Some might disagree, but I've been doing fine without it. I suggest you rather focus on building troops in preparation for the German attack.

As the guy above said, Uk is not the most newbie-friendly nation. You'll have alot of colonies everywhere you need to assign convoys and escorts. The AI usually can't be trusted in doing this. Eventually you'll also have to get troops to Africa and Asia to defend your colonies against Italians/Japanese. It all amounts to alot of micromanagement in the end.

Usa and Soviet Union are both good starting countries. As the Us you'll be pretty much invincible.

I'm assuming you mean Yugoslavia? They can be quite tricky as you'll be attacked from all sides by Hungary, Italy and Germany at the same time. (unless you decide to join the Axis that is...)
Serbia can be released as an independent nation, but it's almost unplayable. You can only barely afford regular infantry divisions since your IC is so low.

Hungary can be fun to play if you want a "few province, high IC" nation. Only problem is that you're landlocked, though it's always possible to steal one of Yugoslavia's ports if you're fast.

Cool, I'll try Hungary then. I meant to say Yugoslavia, I'm trying to get a handle on Ricky at the same time and I've been enjoying my WWI games with Serbia (despite losing terribly).

Thanks for all the tips guys, I think I'm finally starting to understand a bit. Though one thing ticks me off. I'm not allowed to invade Ireland in the 1938 campaign as England

. I tried and I tried (Stopped the non-aggression pact and still couldn't). I wanted to kill those Irish so bad, but they wouldn't let me :\. (No offense to any Irish in the forums, I just had a strong urge for some reason)

You can't declare war as a democracy.

Get the Armageddon booster pack and you can change these options so that everyone can declare war.
Could be considered promotion of ilegal activites, dont do it.

press f12 type in freedom then put your interventiosom to max and invade

Ah.....Another thing the manual forgot to mention...Okay..Well I have Armageddon so it doesn't matter, ill just play that instead of Doomsday. Thanks for all the help guys.
