this area may look inactive because most of the threads are in the main section (including a lot of multiplayer stuff)
I'm still a fan, too, but I don't post here much. And I'm busy working on my own mod.

wow, that's a lot of full stacks...sassanids definitely need to be badly nerfed
anyway, beware Heraclius!
I came to this mod after reading the wonderful AARs of SeniorBatavianHorse.
I had the strangest feeling of deja vu starting IBFD 7.03 (on Hard/Medium) after reading At The Limes (long may it continue) because of course all of his characters are present in the game.
Seeing the Visigoths clustered around Rome galvanised me into sending everyone who could hold a sword over to northern Italia. I also successfully assaulted Arelete on the first turn (those heavy onagers are fearsome weapons).
I soon ran into some of the less flattering aspects of the B.I. expansion. My first Rome relief army happened to end its turn on a bridge near the eternal city. All six Visigoth stacks immediately attacked one after the other. Unfortunately thanks to the way B.I. treats swimmers, I fairly easily destroyed the whole Visigoth nation with a single stack in one turn.
Now I understand why SBH never fights at bridges in his AARs. I will do likewise in future.
My brothers in the east then declared war on me, I notice this also happened in At The Limes, so it must be a normal development. Fighting the ERE was a lot of fun, it taught me just how tough (their) Legio Comitatenses and Legio Palatinae are. Having sacrificed a very large number of Milites turning back the initial assaults, I sent a spy east to see if I had accounted for all of them, only to see this...
I like the way that elite troops are so hard to recruit (2 or three turns each, and mostly only in Italia), it means I have to husband my core of elites from the starting armies, constantly supplementing them with whatever can be recruited locally.
The sheer variety of units in the Western Roman Empire is quite staggering. I especially like the system of naming individual units, it gives each of them a personality, it's a pity they couldn't all have unique shield designs as well, but I presume hard-coded limits prevent this.
This mod is so good I have a hard time going back to playing normal RTW. It has made me fall in love with late antiquity and the Fall of Rome.
