Do you mean when you end turn? Because that's entirely dependant on your machine, the faster it is the quicker it runs.

Highly doubt there will be a beta with such a huge mod.

And I'm considering not buying RTW2 or a new PC and to just wait for EBII to come out. It simply looks to be a huge ultra-graphics Western-centric turd, and a game like that simply does not interest or capture my imagination at all, whereas EB includes Far-Eastern factions underrepresented in the Ancient World who I really enjoy.

I didn't know where to suggest something, because this forum lacks a suggestion thread, but...

I suggest that the member of EB2 that designed the hoplite and their fighting techniques should read Storm of Spears by Christopher Matthew. I think they will find it very interesting and will definitely give the hoplite the glory they deserve

Lyra and Airborne? I think it was?

Aye, I am sure RTWII will be fun to play, it's just very Westerncentric is all, and my favourites are Eastern.

I'll simply make do with Carthage and Macedon till they release DLC to milk my money udders. *quiver*

What will you guys do about supplies and atrition? will the carthaginian player have to worry about such things if he attempts to do a invasion of italy like hannibal? Or will he only have to worry about battles, meaning no atrition and supplies?

Only to some extent. My turn times aren't really any faster on my brand new computer than they were on my 6 year old one when running Stainless Steel, and they're also far, far longer than in Shogun 2. It's not because of my machine; the game is just slower when it has a heavy campaign_script to parse every turn.

Realistically speaking, for a mod like Europa Barbarorum, I'd be very impressed with anything less than a minute per turn.

Not sure if this forum is the right place to ask, but I figured asking won't hurt.

If one compares the shield designs as used by the Sweboz of EB1 and the Cimbri of RS2 to those of later Germanic peoples such as the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings (as shown by Google images), there is a clear difference. Those used by the older tribes are more rectangular or hexagonal than those used by later tribes, who appeared to have favored round shields. I wonder why, as I suppose a rectangular shield provides more body coverage. Is a round shield stronger, perhaps? Or should I have searched more thoroughly and were rectangular shields still in use? Was there a change in shield design? And if there was, is there any explanation about around what time this happened and why?

Can't give you a clear answer about how and why they evolved. As for the shape comparison... I know of multilayered aspis shields, that probably offered more protection against a direct penetrating hit , yet the shield is always used to deflect the blow if able, not stop it. It also offers a higher degree of mobility and sight, it also covers less of your body. The rectangular shields covers the most of the body, but obscures your vision the most and highly limit your slashing options. Stabbing the enemy also worked, as showed by the Romans. Hexagonal offer slightly less protection than rectangular ones, yet they are lighter and allow you to slash diagonally. Since the German warriors were mostly spear users, I know nothing of their nobles' swordplay, thou.

We can't say at this date since the gameplay mechanics aren't fully done yet. But it should be better than with EB1 due to M2TW's engine.
However this is highly dependent on machine specs.

For the first release we will most probably not use our last faction slots, as it means more work in the unit departement.
So expect to see the same factions from EB1 and the new ones that were already previewed.

We will have an open beta as we had with EB1, however our idea of a beta is a mod which is quite playable and enjoyable.
And which will most probably contain bugs haven't been found in our closed alpha and beta stages.

    Quote from a member:
    We already have them both:

Attrition is handled in 2 ways:
    - by the engine: as the armies get casualties, the player needs to replenish them through recruitment or by merging units
    - by traits: the generals can get traits like "GallicDruid" or Ancillaries like "Chirurgeon" which provide the effect of BattleSurgery, which allows more wounded to recover and get back to active duty. Unfortunately, I don't think we can use negative values in this effect and get less recoveries from wounded - this would be the real attrition...

    Supplies are handled through traits:
    - we have the WellSupplied and the PoorlySupplied traits. When a general has an army in enemy territory (condition InEnemyLands) and in some other conditions, he gets the PoorlySupplied trait, which gives a penalty in morale to his troops. The WellSupplied gives bonuses to the morale.

So i guess it is going to be just like EB1 right? i hope the morale penalty is increased since in EB1 you can just not care about the supply thing, even sieging a city that takes 10 turns to surrender and actualy waiting that much.

Pretty much yes, at least for the first release. I understood that you meant attrition caused due to low moral and long periods of marching.
But I don't think that's possible and even so it would be hard to simulate from scripting, since the number of soldiers in a unit don't represent real numbers.
