This is a thread all about the undisputed Bamf-in-Chief of the early campaign, the Hungarian Lord of Satu Mare - Istvaaaaaaaaan. Every early campaign, I make a point to send a princess his way, seduce his womanizing self, and elevate him from lowly governer to the pillar of my conquest. His influence is felt everywhere, from A to Z, Acre (Istvanoslav) to Zagreb (Istvanopolis). I do not care if your Istvan story has him as the man who establishes the Empire of the Hungarian Faithful, or crushes France as an adopted Englishman. I don't care if he's ransacking Rhodes or pulverizing Palma. I don't even care if he was on your side! Tell me of mighty duels against this Prince of the Universe and how you defeated him merely because his horse decided it yearned for impalement! (and it was the horse, I assure you, Istvan does not charge spearmen!) As long as you add extra a's to his name, I want to hear it all!

P.S. - Erik is only so bloody because once his wife saw Istvan's army at march with him at their head, knew her own husband for a ninny and a sot, and from that day forth beat Erik with a wooden spoon at the conclusion of every evening.

Well istvan is sweet no question about it though I still prefere erik. But he might be a little overpowered with his high stack of hitpoints.

I saw Istvan attacking and sacking cairo on a crusade in my last campaign as the byzzies. Looked like he was having fun.

Whenever I played Byzantium, even in vanilla, I would use Anna Comnena to seduce Istvan when he came sniffing around Sofia. Mostly to get him off my back around that region. I never noticed anything particularly great about him, and used him like any other general. Some games he spent sitting as governor of Sofia until his peaceful death... What IS so cool about him? Aside from the joking, I haven't seen a straight answer to that in this whole thread.
