Default for epic battles -- new edu file added

For those players who like their battles as epic as possible, I modified the export_descr_unit file as follows

    new
    ---------------

    cav is 100
    heavy inf is 200
    light inf is now 250

    use the new_edu_file download

    works with ss6.1

    original
    ------------
    cav is now 90
    body guard is 30
basic inf increased by 50 percent

put it in your data directory. The file works fine but always backup your original export_descr_unit

I modified the export_descr_unit file for SS6.1 using the same unit counts as the version for 6.0. All unit sizes increased by 50 percent except for units that were almost at the max.

The version for 6.0 is farther down the thread.

    version for SS6.1

I fail to see how increased numbers makes a battle more epic though.

The most elite troops of your faction fighting against powerfull enemy troops of a similar reputation as your own, that would be epic to me.

Seeing the dreaded dismounted ritterbruder meeting dismounted Gothic Knights on the field, that would make for an epic struggle. The powerfull cleaving a path through the weak to meet worthy foes, and then fight untill the last man without fear in the face of death.

mmmmmmmmm Don't you want to have more meat for your gothic knights? Seriously I think that if it increases archery numbers, gunpowder units and peasants and basic infantry it'll give them a chance against small elite units...

It makes no sense to have 90 Templars against 150 militia...but 40 against 150???

Not a bad idea after all +repp!!!!

Nice, but my PC would explode if I'd run with such huge numbers , though I'd love to see 4+ squads of 200+ archers shoot fire arrow volley at night, that would look epic.

EPIC battle I want to see was fighting last longer...

    not just about number

I do think that bigger battles=more epic experience... Too bad my campaign is a few hours underway already...

Might as well double the numbers, maybe I'll make a video of a few full stacks fighting eachother

larger numbers is definately better, I play on large yet can't go to huge and keep very high textures and all so I can see all those beautiful bells and whistles

But, one easily done thing is make each unit physically last longer, that makes for more in depth battles, I believe.

Found one error in the export_descr_unit file. Turkish Horse ARchers have 180 men in a unit. Changed that to 90. Everything else is fine. Here is the updated file.

It's nice in theory, but the cavalry sizes are too big, and huge armies cannot be properly deployed in sieges. The game just doesn't play as well with huge unit sizes. That's why opt for large.

    Great job,

My opinion is to leave as they are the high units like templars and these ones and increase the lowest level ones like peasants or militia.

    That's what I consider that's balanced.....

Thanks for your interest paradoxon. I am working on substituting textures for the 3 eastern factions from other mods. So far I have 4 units changed for the turks, egypt (fatihimid - spelliing) has 10 and the moors have 5. That is counting mercenary units available to them. I also am using vlad's mongol textures. My eastern faction peasant units now have swords instead of knives. I am currently working on changing some of the english units using textures from ornamentum.

Assuming that is what you mean by minimods. I can't release it to the public because I would need permission from all the mod teams whose textures I am using.

....will you decrease bodyguards stats?? I've just had a huge battle and they are really overpowered.

I have not installed 6.0 yet. I have been making this mod for previous versions and other mods. I thought I would see if you would max out the number of soldiers per unit(keeping the ratios as close as possible to Kongs) as an additional addon so that I don't have to add another thread with nearly the same mod. Max is 250 per unit, 100 for cavalry...

What's the number in unit size to reach 250? I've seen 90 as the highest...

Not really on the highest Unit scale the unit size factor is X2.5.
So 90 in the EDU makes 225 units ingame.

    So

    a) it's not possible to reach 250?
    b) changing the soldiers line to 90 for cavalry and 90 for infantry would give different results or CTD?

    Thanks

Max amount of soldiers for both mounted and unmounted units in the EDU is 100, which on the largest scale is 250 ingame.

    To modder

can you update your file? because SST 1.1 by Chimaeira was released

it seem like file was replaced by SST 1.1 so unit size was roll back to default size.

    Any update for this? thanks
