"And how do you propose we keep the Gauls back from our borders, in not by shielding the mountain passages? Tribune, will your person is sacred, I must beg you to reconsider your choice - this war isn't something that has not been brought upon us already; I mean that we must take the best possible action in order to avoid repetition of a siege, like that we witnessed last year in Arretium, in Etruria, some miles away from Rome. However, before laying a motion for this choice I speak of, I'd like to see what the Senate thinks..."

Quintus, you speak much sense in your words.
I have fought these gauls and broker that siege.
I do not however think a full scale war with them is the right choice.
We have no allegiance from the greek states and that could turn to bite us in the rear.

"May I remind you, Quintus, that at this point our northern border constists of two crossable bridges, requiring two minimal legions to defend. If the mountain passes would be the only defence points it would be more than we have now. But we cannot forget that the Greeks are already inside the wall formed by the Alps."

To maintian the alps we would need to push the greeks away.
Is our consul ready for such an obligation?
Can he manage it with minimal losses.
If not it is not something to undergo.
The greek states are vast and their armies plenty.

Our economy is safe at the moment due to the increase in provinces.
We have the legions holding the south and eastern coast.
    They can be used.
My personal legion at Capua is still recovering from Massilia and I do not think they will be ready for much this season.

    Vitruvius sighs

"I cannot reconsider, the people must know that our Consul can keep the peace at home. They must feel secure. It is a reasonable request: show the people that Italy is stable and properly defended, show the people that a two front war is not on the horizon, and I will lift my veto."

Across the Rubicon is to the north.

If they choose to war against us, then it becomes a two front war, the people want assurances against this!"

I think Rome can handle herself against either of them.
    But the tribune speaks sense.
The main course of action will be getting a safe passage to Massilia, that and obtaining an alliance with the greek cities.

That's the point! We can't handle ourselves right now against either of them. We must wait, we must retrain, we must reposition. This cleanup of the Republic could be used to put the legions in positions, from which they can strike against incursions of our terrain.

    The tribune has spoken.
Going against his word would only bring down his Veto.
The consul should provide us with information on Romes legions.
He may move to secure Italia from all brigands and bandits.
    Can I see a division?

OOC: You should open a new thread with a poll for votes.

IN: Greetings friends, but time for friendly greetings shall be fleeings when our borders are weaker than the armies within stiking distance. We must choose our foes wisely, and our allies maliciously! I may have preached to you of honour in the past, but it has no place when we live in danger! For does a lion spare it's weaker rival when it moves in on it's female? No.

But for now my friends, we are the weaker lion, but we are young! We will grow strong! Everyday we grow stronger, so it is now we should fight the Gauls, and ally with the Greeks. So long as we have no safe land route to Massilia, the city shall remain in peril!

But when the Gauls are vanquished, we cannot allow a greek settlement within the alps. Let alone a complete Hellenic occupation! But men, one foe at a time.

OOC2: If Parthicus is senior Consul, does that mean Corsica and Sardinia need a governor? because they were amalgamated with another province in the end.

Falco still shows a lot of respect to the former consul

"I'm sorry Valerius, but the Junior Consul proposed a vote, yet gave us no opportunity to vote. I thought I'd open an informal vote."

After staying silent for most of the debates, Gaius Valerius rises when he sees the chance to speak.

"Upon arriving back in Rome, my brother gave us advice. Advice that I know this whole chamber has heard. Yet, it has been completely ignored and disregarded. Therefore, I will have to give his advice, yet again, through my own mouth.

The Hellenes and Gauls are blinded by war, correct? They are completely obsessed with Cisalpine Gaul, and they have been fighting for it for years. While it is true that the many factions, nations, and alliances in the region are divided and separated, I must say that I would be against a direct attack, at the moment. Each tribe and nation has its own armies, correct? If we were to fight a unified Cisalpine Gaul, we would face a single army composed of soldiers from the whole region. Since the whole region is divided, like I said, wouldn't that mean that we would have to face many more armies, instead of one?

It'd be foolish and unnecessary to engage numerous armies when we can strike quickly and storm the region when it is at peace. I do not want to see us wasting lives."

Dear consul im honored by your decision to give me this position.

Also I think we should wait and see, maybe if we are lucky enough
will the Greeks and Gauls start a war to take over the whole
Cisalpine Gaul and then when a winner is crowned,
    the time has come.
A great war shall rise between two great nations and we shall win.

Seeing that his ideas for the war may be opposed, Gaius stands in an effort to edit his advice.

"If this humble organization so wishes, we could attack when both major nations are weak from the war. We will land in the area like angels descending from the Heavens, and all will fall before us. Every city, town, and village will fall immediately, for a few hundred men cannot hold their own against the many legions of the Republic."

Thinking that Gaius is done speaking, a Senator on the other side of the chamber opens his mouth to speak, but he is quickly interrupted.

"Sit down boy, I'm not finished speaking," Gaius yells as he glares at the young Senator.

"Or, if one of the nations has the upper hand, we could move in and attack the stronger nation. The dominant group will not be able to fight on many fronts at once, as they will have to devote their attention to our legions. Once the stronger nation is destroyed, we can storm the other tribes and effortlessly drive them from their lands.

No matter what we do, victory is, by the grace of Mars, assured."
