"His First Command"

Lt. Morph Roslit, of the Pheltorian 12th Rifles Regiment, peered through the rain and scanned the street. Except for the falling of the rain not a sound could be heard.
“Squad Two, move to the objective, Squad One will cover.” Roslit indicated the apartment complex 400 meters up the street. “Execute”
Sgt. Nevillen signaled his men to advance. They moved by fire team, one provided cover while the other advanced, then their roles switched, then they repeated the cycle. Second Squad made it to the objective, taking defensive positions when they got there. “Nevillen here sir, we’re at the objective.”
“Roger Nevillen, Command Squad move to objective Squads One/Two provides cover. Execute.” Roslit then dashed out of cover and advanced up the street. He was half way there when up ahead there came the sounds of intense lasfire. Taking cover behind an overturned ground car he signaled Nevillen on his vox. “Nevillen come in, what’s your situation?” only static. “Nevillen I need a sit-rep over”
“Nevillen here, we’re engaging a small force, maybe platoon strength, lightly armed, we’ve got the upper hand sir, but could use some back-up”
“Roger Nevillen, First Squad move up and assist Second Squad, Execute” Roslit got up and continued his advance to the complex. The command Squad reached the skirmish as the enemy was trying to flank second squad, thus catching the flankers in the flank; the enemy lost 4 men before they even knew what hit them. After a few minutes the enemy retreated into the complex. Roslit walked over to Sgt. Nevillen, “Any loses?’’
“Yeah we lost Cpl. Pelozi, took one in the chest, didn’t penetrate, then he took one in the face as the enemy fell back. Werso and Biste have minor wounds, just a glancing blow.”
“That’s unfortunate Sergeant” turning he saw First Squad had made it to the objective. “Men orders are to hold here till 5th, 6th 8th platoons get here, then we’re taking the building, so get some good positions, pray and prepare to cleanse the enemy.
