Default Long Ranged Weapons vs. Troops

I am getting a lil bored with my game as the Eastern Roman Empire due to its lack of advanced weapons and the trebuchet is getting a little old vs the other long ranged wapons other fractions have. So I was thinking of playing as France as I must say the Culverin, Basilisk and Serpentine look pretty nice. However I used them in a custom battle real quick to check them out and they don't seem to impressive from the start and slow to reload comapred to the trebuchet. But maybe thats just custom battle and they would be better in a *real* game. What are your guys thoughts? Also I love the Mangonel but France doesnt get it, anyway I can get it with France or get them as mecs somewhere, same with the rocket lauchers? If so where can I get them at? Also which is your favorite? I think mine is the rocket launcher so far.

I just think all the cannon units take forever to reload....We need something like from that "Speed up Melee" post...

yea they sure do take a long time loading cannons, all you do is swab, load charge, load shot, ram, fire. Mabe 15 sec if done good.

You can always increase number of artillery pieces per unit. Say 20 instead of 2 would make significant difference, be more entertaining and rewarding Having that, you shouldn't complain about long reload time

    Back to the OP

The Byzantines did field some cannon late in the empire, their lack of them was due more to poverty than lack of availability. So they should at least get bombards.
