Default You are the Senate: The Classics

This thread is a chronicle for famous past posts or threads. Anything is welcome here, from a Curia thread to an election debate. The only rule is that the entries must come from a different incarnation, and therefore the Catacombs.

If you have a thread to offer, just post it here!

    YOU ARE THE SENATE CLASSICS

    Full Curia Threads

Curia Ivlia, Consulate of Ancus/Lepidus - YATS two. - This is one of our greatest terms, with the co-founder of YATS, sanada, at the helm.

    Battle Reports
The First battle with Tarentum (or ever) - First Consulate, YATS one.
The first defeat we ever had - First Consulate, YATS one.
First showdown with Pyrrhus - First Consulate, YATS one.
The worst defeat in YATS history - YATS one
The incredible victory of Mr. Sulla - YATS one
The death of the only member who had the guts to kill his character in a battle - YATS one.

    Debates

    Election Campaigns
Gaius Gracchus (Fabius) vs. Winter: The Smackdown! - incarnation unknown.

    Political Parties

    Commentaries
De Republica, or how Winter singlehandedly killed YATS one

    Miscellaneous
The savegame AAR challenge - a horribly named attempt to attract new members that never really got off the ground. I believe the save is actually still hosted if you want to try it...

PLEASE avoid posting in the classic threads (except the savegame challenge), or any Catacomb thread, to preserve their semi-order. Instead, discuss them here.

I have few for you, winter!

    1. While it may not seem true after so much time leading the Optimates but , yes, I started off as a Popularis! Here's the proof! -- YATS I

    2. This defeat is definitely the worse we ever had. Thanks to Tribune Cato's Veto, the Populares objections etc I was sent with one full stack to defeat two full armies. While it was a good fight, I lost... Here's YATS's worst ever defeat! -- YATS I

    3. However, as a true Roman, I took my bloody vengeance! Here's the conquest of the Po Valley by Lucius Cornelius Sulla(That was my name on YATS I) -- YATS I

    4. The second worst defeat -- where we lost a Consul, an eagle and 1200 soldiers! -- YATS I

    5. One of the great YATS Terms: Consulate of Ancus\Lepidus, the Conquest of Cisilpine Gaul! -- YATS I

    6. DE REPUBLICA -- The death of the first YATS.

    7. My greatest term -- The Pyrrhic wars on IMPERATOR 2 mod!

    8. The most heated political campaign thread I've ever campaigned on! Winter and I gave a recital of vitriol usage on this one!

    9. The YATS savegame AAR challenge! I'll give you this special battle report(check the first battle resolution), one that Winter never managed to beat! Anyone who has played Imperator 2 knows that such a landslide victory isn't an easy accomplishment...

And argued for the rest of the term over awarding the Consul a Posthumous honor!
    6. DE REPUBLICA -- The death of the first YATS.
De Republica! This caused quite a stir! I never actually meant to kill the first YATS with this actually, I was just annoyed with the opties at the moment haha.
    7. My greatest term -- The Pyrrhic wars on IMPERATOR 2 mod!
    Indeed it was!

    8. The most heated political campaign thread I've ever campaigned on! Winter and I gave a recital of vitriol usage on this one!
That was a tough one, right around when you first joined if I recall.

I'll add these to the lists tomorrow.

Great idea, I think the newer players also like to read the historical documents from Romes earliest times (i.e. read about earlier incarnations of YATS). + rep to Winter

Updated with most of Fabius' suggestions (I couldn't take them all, as we have to leave room for other people )

If anyone has found any new classics while reading through the archive forums I'd be very interested to see them

Remember back when we argued about those damned Calabrians, Winter ?
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

You have to get all these YATS titans back Winter!!!
People will believe a lie because they want it to be true; or they're afraid it's true.
Given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe its true, or because they're afraid it might be true. Peoples' heads are full of knowledge, facts and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.

I wasn't here yet when you guys made these YATS games. And still it's so exciting to read!
And now I can't wait myself to be part of history!
    Long live YATS!

The following would be good to add:

The Chronicle of Rome: The story of the game so far.
The Battle of Heraclaea: The showdown with Pyrrhus, after which controversy spoils the victory.
The Social War: In the wake of the war with Epirus, Italy revolts and Rome has a major crisis. The Consuls demand more powers to deal with the threat, which causes heated debate.
The Arrest of Manlius, Marcellus, Gallus and Volero: The downfall of 'The Gang of Four.'
The Trial of Manlius, Marcellus, Gallus, and Volero: And subsequent trial.
The Siege of Corfinium: In which Marcus Atilius Balbus earned the distinction of being the only Consul in that YATS to have been killed in battle...

or possibly the entire Curia thread from the first term, which was pretty epic, with the two wars and the massive controversy surrounding them.

I wasn't the only one to die, but I can't remember for the life of me who it was that died. I remember he was fighting Gauls and we were using RS.

It's one of the classics. Besides, it seems that earlier YATSes had more defeats (which would be historical, as we win everything these days).

Maybe some commanders should swallow their prides and lose. It'd make for great RP and remember: Roman commanders were hardly ever put on trial for being defeated. In fact, if Machiavelli (and by extension: Livius) is correct Varro (the losing consul at Cannae) got rewarded for his part in the battle (that is, just showing up and charging all of his army headlong into the Carthaginian lines).

Point in question: dare to lose, consuls!

EDIT: sorry, he did not get rewarded, but he did get thanked for fighting the battle and returning to Rome (thereby not despairing for Rome's fate)

You're the only one to die in this YATS, though.

And I have certainly never reloaded any battles to fight them again, otherwise I wouldn't have come so close to defeat at Heraclaea, which was just total chaos
