Icon4 Posting a bug report (read this first).

Bug reports are a lot more useful if you can include the following information:

    1. The version number of XGM you started your campaign with.
    2. The version number you are playing now.
    3. The install options you selected when you installed XGM.
    4. The faction you were playing.
    5. The active faction when the error occurs.
    6. When the error occurs (game start, tun end, strat map, battle map, etc).
    7. The game year when the error occurs.

You can also e-mail saved games to me. They are often useful in tracking down the source of an error.

Default Wrong Version of RTW / Returns to Main Menu

XGM requires Rome Total War version 1.5, or Barbarian Invasion version 1.6, or Alexander version 1.9.

Symptoms: When you try to start a campaign the game kicks you back to the main menu.

Diagnosis: You can check your version number by going to the options menu. The version number will be in the top right corner of the screen.

Cure: If you have the wrong version number you will need to download and install the appropriate patch (1.5 if you only have Rome Total War, or 1.6 if you have Barbarian Invasion). You can get the patches here.

    Notes:

    (1) Some editions of Rome Total War claim to patch the game to 1.6 but do not actually do so. The only reliable way to tell which version you have is to check the options menu in-game.

    (2) Sometimes the patch installer doesn't work. So even if you think you have installed the right patch you still need to check your version from the options menu in-game. You can usually fix this problem by manually uninstalling the game, and then reinstalling. You can get instructions here.

XGM requires a clean install of the original game and any expansions.

Causes: Your original game files can become corrupted if: (1) You install game patches in the wrong order; (2) You make your own modifications to the original game; or (3) You install a mod that is not properly mod-foldered. Most current mods are mod-foldered and will not conflict with XGM, but some mods, especially older ones, over-write the original games files and cause problems for other mods.

Symtoms: Various. The game might not start at all, or it might crash when you try to start a campaign, or it might crash at some later stage. The effects depend on which original files have been corrupted.

Diagnosis: Check to make sure that any other mods you are using are mod-foldered. You can usually find out by checking the readme or other documentation provided with the mod. Check to see if you can start your original Rome Total War game. If you can see any visible changes to the game then obviously the original files have been modified.

Cure: Uninstall and then re-install Rome Total War and any expansions. Install any patches if needed. Re-install XGM.
