Default Re: Classical Age Total War

The campaign start in 300 bc, and finishing as vanilla TW. Of course there will be no several roman factions, only spqr. The starting date is interesting for those who likes to play the romans, as they just enters the third samnite war. The samnites forces are lead by Gellius Egnatus, who successfully rally the northern enemies of Rome, Etruscans, Umbrians and Gauls. In 300 bc, the diadochi wars were at the end, and the eastern world was mostly now under the hellenistic rule and enlightment.
So this is like a second "greek classical age" (the first is still the well-known V-VIth century bc, but if you see the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_antiquity), "classical-age" could means also in a larger way, "antiquity period".
(and in fact we have still not found the most appropriate name for the mod...).

The faction list is not yet completely closed : Here is the original choice :

    - S.P.Q.R
    - Acheanoi (achean league confederacy)
    - Makedonoi
    - Arche Seleukia
    - Pergamon
    - Ptolemais
    - Pontioi
    - Palhava
    - Hayasdan
    - Skythioi
    - Illyrioi
    - Getai
    - Odrysioi
    - Arverni
    - Belgae/priteni
    - Suebi
    - Karthadast
    - Meroitic kingdom (replacing numidians)
    - Mauryan empire

(and of course lots of powerful mini-factions spread over 100 regions)

Basically, the getic army was divided between tarabostes, the nobility, forming cavalry units, and the komatai (peasants), used as the infantry, but in a whole, all sorts of infantry. This little faction starts with just one city.

    -Epilektoi Sicaphoroi

Well, this is more recognisable than "spartanc4Gz7f489" or something else, and for asking questions and more posts in this thread...

Most seriously, CATW is yet almost ready for a release, but i have some work to make a lot of new slaves and working on the mercs and specific hidden units system. The more i work on this demo, the less would be needed on final CATW1.0..

Amongst others specificities, this mods feature the same EDU entries are vanilla (and a lot more added); although the models differs radically. For an example, a german wardog is now an Götti Thegnoz noble warrior, a gallic druid a Venetian skirmisher, etc... The recruitments also of course completely redone. I searched to have the max specific units for each factions. There are almost non clones in CATW, with 255 DMB models and approx. 380 in EDU. There will be more of 1000 units in the final 1.0.
So, CATW is fully compatible with your vanilla samegames, and more, fully compatible with all the features made for Vanilla, like historical batlles. The first batch on 4 new where added, and they are all fully playable, of course with the brand-new units of CATW, and also the prologue.

a screen from the battle of Zela, and another from the battle of Munda :

    More to come...

    Thx.
But, well, it's a compromise you know, between absolute historical accuracy (a nearly nonsense as we know little about the germanic suevic warfare), and gameplay. A sword was a quality weapon much more difficult to produce than an axe, and the last was more devastating if properly used, with less training. There's only one in this faction, which is a truly specific unit (other northern axemen are scythians). And if the faction was more really historically accurate, you would have a lot of skirmishers clubmen/skirmishers spearmen, which make a little boring faction to play. There will be also some suevic mercenaries which use this style of warfare (not axe)... But it's still differs than the vanilla scandinavian germans which were shaped as a "viking-like" faction...

    SHIPS IN CATW

In CATW, you will have the possibility to recruit some new ships, which differs between factions and enhance the gameplay in a way more subtile and historical accurate. For exemple, hellenistic and roman ships are separate (but common for basic ships up biremes). Triremes, quadrimemes, quinquiremes, are now all corvus equipped, (no more specific corvus quinquireme), and only available for the roman faction. Hellenistic ships are more faster, but have less men on board and slightly less fightning power. Instead, they can recruit more heavy ships, with devastating ramming power, as it was a pratice during the diadochis era.

Price, turns of recruitment, speed, crew, and strike habilities differs now from a ship to another, whith more accuracy between factions : This is the hellenistic roster (common for achaean league, seleucids, pontic kingdom, ptolemaics, macedonians). Two more ships will be available in the final version, the liburnia two rowers late warship and the kerkouroi fast landing ship. Ptolemaics and macedons are the only naval powers to afford the mighty hekkaidekere, via the royal dockyard construction (new building), which improves other harbour aspects (stronger ships, merchant fleet increase).
new building also for the carthaginians (the port of carthage, roughly on the same basis, but allows faster construction on triremes).
Apart for the pontic kingdom, easterns are no more allowed to recruit ships above the dieres rank.
There will be a later roman ships preview...

    Thx.

Catw is also feature some of the highly detailled skins : Most of these would be playable in several version and "HD" versions as this massilian hoplite :

For those who likes football, look well the face (imagine him without moustache..) This is a true 512 pix skin (twice the size in vanilla), but 1024 for those having entire shield or others stuff added...
Horse are often not well treated in most mods. This will be corrected here (models with separated 3d harness) :
