Hmmm, I have played two campaigns in EB so far, especially that Roman one which came short of conquering the world by 21 provinces. Never in those campaigns have I had to deal with a battle in dense forest. Lucky me I suppose.

Forests are just one more reason why to love desert factions. Pahlava, AS and Ptolemeans should be able to avoid most forest battles.
I love forest battles, when I have a barbaroi stack.
Yes you do i can vouch for that, what a épic we did that 3v4....
Satres is a pushover compared to Diazenis, though ....
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

playing makedon is the worst in the beginning game , epeiros is just full of forests and maybe its somthng wrong with my game but epeiros rarely attack pella anymore they just go conquer the north and illyrians which means even more nice forests which is why i normaly go east with makedon is stead of west

You go *north*: Agrianians, Thraikioi Peltastai, and other Thracian units work as excellent support units for your phalanxes, and can fight on their own in forested areas. Early game, yeah, try for peace and/or ignore them if you can.

if im stuck in a forest with phalanx's then i use the red line to protect my rear then form a square (including the redline) to make sure i dont get unexpectedly flanked and keep most units in the middle to bridge any gaps and also its only epieros i dont like fighting in the makedon campaighn as they dont bother attacking me unless i go into epieros then their missles units and hoplites and elephants hit me all at once and in the chaos of a forest battle it dosent end good and Thraikioi Peltastai are the best units to use against your imediate enemies in epieros and the north

i'd rather feel like a cheap ass for that one forst battle than lose it, i avoid forests for that reason among others , i prefer well earned victories but in epeiros there are places on the campaign map that look normal but turn out to be a forest in battle so cant always do so playing makedon whih i currently am , which reminds me i need to post an your empire thread soon

You know that you don't need to win all of your battles...
of course im not stupid , i like to win as many battles as i can frankly if an ancient commander could win a battle by using some red line to cover their flanks then i know they would, its not being cheap as the ai can still break through the formation and defeat you , once the formations is broke then unless i have better melee fighters then im dead so its not exactly cheap tactic just a ast resoucre one , however like i say i like winning battles , as did alexander the great (a hero of mine)
