Greetigns, I would be most pleased if we could come to an agreement on an alliance to link all three small parties against the optimate "dictatorship".

I have but one issue, will you seek a new theatre of war in the near future? For this is an issue that I will not easily flex on, for I believe the people neither want nor need a war at this time.

My only wish is not to begin an offensive war against our neighbours. I will support and defensive action and I wish to recruit a full legion to gaurd Sicily, but I wish a term of peace, where we can grow before the next great war.

im fine with it, but as for the matter of attacking my idea is that we need a constant flow of attacking as long as it is a region that can help our empire. If we just conquer a town that provides no need- whats the point so i think i agree with you there.

All I seek to avoid is conquering for the sake of it. We conquer when and if an enemy threatens these sacred borders that we set. If you agree, if only for one election, not to campaign to initiate any foreign campaign without reason, you have my hand in friendship.

On the other hand, my friend Publicola, I must urge you to seek the office of Senior Consul. Brutus has yet again declared himself for the position, and his power grabbing attempts do alarm me. We must put a stop to this man before he makes a tyrant of himself.

My friends and fellow senators, today a dark cloud has descended on these hills and has engulfed the senate. A man who sees himself before Rome has once again returned to these walls seeking kingship. Even the greatest consuls like camillus were never relected, yet this man thinks he is better.

We are in trouble, you optimates may scoff and call all overs fools, but how many of you knew he sought to be elected twice? He makes fools of us all, we must not let the tyrant gain power again. We need protection from greedy men. We need to reform the constitution so that he cannot even hope to regain power again, because my friends he has gained power for the next term, but you can limit it with a vote for me. If he is allowed to be Senior Consul again, than the freedom we love is truly lost to the greed and perversion of a tyrant.

He probably believes that we conspire against him, and will but we conspire against the fact that his parties supremity of numbers is dangerous, because our cause for freedom is lost if the Optimates appoint this king. If they are not his lap dogs, they should rise up and banish this wannabe dictator from office.

The Consul arrived with his lictors at the house of Valerius Publicola. He knew why the dog has called him out, to denounce him, but he was happy to go and humiliate him with reason.

"Salvete omnes. Publicola, I would say it is a pleasure to be here but I would be lying to you and I do not wish it."

Brutus heard out Valerius speaking and he started laughing at points of his oration. He hadn't seen a bad case so badly put; was that the best the famous opponent could do?

"Gentlemen, I see that Valerius over here is fixed on calling me a tyrant. May I ask what gave me away, Senator? Was anyone of the previous Consuls who run for a second term ready to take over? I have acted inside the constitutional rights and whatever you may say Valerius, it is only the truth that I can run for a second term if I wish it so. And I do wish it. I have many things to do for Rome still and that is why I re-run for Consul. What bothers you so much that you cannot accept this simple fact: I can run and I will run for Consul!"

OOC: BTW, things written in italic are thoughts or background I wish to be seen with my IN post. So the second quote is about a thought of my senator and unless you have mind reading powers, I doubt you can probably find out...

I call you these words, because you go against the morals of any good senator and your decision flys in the face of the mos maiorum.

It is not about legality, but morality. And your decision to run again shows a lack of morals.

OOC: I will answer to this argument but keep in mind that we have not set the offices based on history nor Roman religion. So invoking the Mos Maiorum to campaign against me isn't fair. Imagine if I said that you also do not keep the mos maiorum by violating the Cursus Honorum? How on earth have you managed to be Consul by the first elections? If you continue invoking the mos maiorum against my candidacy I'm gonna use this argument, sorry.
