Meum mel,
I hope to find you well, even after the untimely and unfortunate death of your father. I assure you I did nothing to provoke his death, and I have never wished it upon him. Please give my sincerest greviences to your brother.
Life in Corsica and Sardinia isn't that interesting, now I find. The air and scenes are lovely, and you must surely come here someday to see it yourself. However, there is nothing yet to do. The population is happy, they are all healthy, there is no war to wage or battles to fight... I know this may sound a nice place for you, but for a man, it is irrestibly boring.
However, I will be keeping track of this term's elections, and be appointing a new quaestor and military tribune. Then, I hope that the Senate will send me to capture the Balearic Islands to secure more trade in the Mediterranean. It would be very helpful of them, to give me something like that to do.
I have plans to return to Rome for a few days to see you and Sextus Julius plus other clients and friends, so until then,
Vale, meum columba
