Why Ireland?

I cannot understand why a faction slot is used up on them when it could go to an eastern European (Serbia) or Islamic (Abbasids) faction.

To my knowledge, they played no real role in the game's timeline and were largely rabbles led by various clans. Ingame (in my experience) they have also never made any significant expansion or impact on another faction.

Any thoughts?

Not really. Ireland was only made for a small period. KK had to mix some Welsh units into it which made the roster look a little strange and unhistorical.

Well. They balance the isles a bit and fill in a substantial rebel area up there.

Their roster is terrible and they are nowhere near any historic accuracy.

For me it's the first faction to get rid of any time when we will be willing to get slots for something else.

If there were no Ireland, Scotland would be too mighty. They already get York before England in every game I've played until I got tired of it and gave York to England...

Ireland may not do much when played by the AI

But it does give the human player an interesting challenge and the chance to use a variety of units not otherwise available.

The Irish were no more rabble than any other people at this time.

I'm voting for Wookies in SS 6.0.

I'm about half way through a campaign with Ireland right now, and I've been having fun with it. They've got a pretty cool mix of units.

Ireland was not conquered by England until 1169. Even then it was only partially controlled. England lost more and more of this conquered region untill the 17th century. It was England's very prolonged Vietnam. The Irish motto was 'England's trouble is Irelands oppertunity'. Attack England whenever it was at war abroad. By the way I'm Irish but I think Polish Beer is the best, especially Tyksie !

Well, it is STILL partially controlled - the complains were about lack of unified Ireland that early; Kingdom controlled to few of a territory and Lords were fighting each-other, if I remember correctly...

What I personally dislike, is that they are currently mostly copied from Kingdoms, as Norway and KoJ are as well.

But keep them JUST for the relative uniqueness, some Anglo-Scottish buffer (I quite frequently play England and started to do as Scots regularly - pretty good contenders for world domination) and the challenge they present. AI Ireland should be a little bit more aggressive IMO, abusing the wars between the Lion and the Unicorn.

P.S. Stella Artois and Beck's, but they began selling them diluted here. =(

By the way i played Irish one campaing vh/vh and it was very nice expierience and much more intresting than Scotland campaign.
Ireland after reached little bit more regions and money has got very good and strong units specially Swordsman from ulster and Ostman as well
Cavalry isnt super strong but is the similar level what Denmark and Russia

The most acurate thing would to have Ireland as a Rebel state that even after conquest gives loads of trouble. It should be possible to make alliances with this rebel faction. Both Spain and France did in reality.
