err no since canada will be just regular colony first under french rule. And canada wasn't run independantly until 1867 although it was still had connections to the UK then as Dominion of Empire.

With the American colonies it makes sense after a while since they fought and declared their own independence in those days, by force. If this game was in the Victorian age and comes to the 1860s then it makes sense if Canada is run independently, but still a satellite in a way to the United Kingdom.

Yeah I know what you mean. Just trying to get an understaing of how it is going to work. So the Time period is going to be around late 17th century to 18th century

So Canada will be under control of the British? Seems as though the British will be able to kick the Americans a** with ease if thats the case, or will the colonies have a much weaker military?

yeah, but u must remember the french canadian milita in the american revolution and 1812 were very good troops and were crucial to repeling the americans in those two wars. Maybe the Franco-canadian milita should be have an AOR in New France for all nations who are in control of it.

I apologise for the quality of the picture but it gives a general idea of who had what in 1700. Western canada/alaska should be neutral so either france, britain, russia or spain can nab it.

Canada was largely native at the time, the large Ojibwe (Chipewa) tribes in northern great lakes, the Montaignais, in the east and the Cree in the Middle west. All three were large promenant tribes. They were all closely alled with the French until the great success of the French fur trade, which resulted in Louis calling a halt to fur trade in America. Then the tribes thought the French were getting greedy and the Old French alliance started to break up. They all still held very close ties with the French and the French with them. The French were very few in Canada compared to England inparticular. Exept for some exeptions the French unlike the other European nations lived with the indians in there villages as one group of people.

Remember this time period also incompasses the French and Indian war, so it should be French for most of the game.

Sorry, but no, it should not be French ...

The British were well and truly in control of northern North America with the establishment of The Hudson's Bay Company 1682. The Company Charter, granted by Charles I gave the HBC total governance over Rupert's Land (the drainage basin of Hudson's Bay). This included a large part of what is now mid-western US as well as most of Canada stretching from the east side of the Rocky Mountains all the way east to the watershed divide for the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence River.

By this time the French fur trade was long in the past, and the HBC quietly and ruthlessly controlled everything in the area for a very long time. Even after Canada confederated in 1867, the HBC Charter was still in effect up until the 1980's when the company was officially dissolved.

Furthermore, during 1700's 30 Years War between England and France, the British built fortresses in eastern Canada (Halifax 1735 and on Cape Breton Island). Although the fortress on Cape Breton changed hands after various treaties and cease-fires, the final battles took place in 1750's. After this, the French were done for good in Canada.

Note, during this time, there were major sea battles in Hudson's Bay and The French sponsored an over-land assault on one the HBC's forts on James Bay using local (native) militia. As well, there were sea battles in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

By 1812, the native tribes were British subjects and loyal to the crown. Along with the British regulars and conscripts, they were instrumental in routing the US invasion attempts, and pressing the attack all the way to Washington.

    Cheers Brian
