First AAR for my modded RTR
General Changes:
- 0 turn recruitment for all non-elite units
- all cavalry units increase their number by 33%
- barbarians have access to high-level cities and buildings, but with less law/health effects.
- double income from mines; huge trade effect for places with silk
Faction-specfic Changes:
- Sarmatians are unplayable and much more aggressive. They represent the whole steppe people and thus their units are ultra-cheap, and their lands have huge penalties for non-nomads (-100% law and -100 health). However their HAs cannot be recruited outside of scythia.
- Carthaginians and Numdibians are unplayable and peace-loving. They represent a group of traders and native people, they have no city outside of north africa and no battle ship may be built. Their lands also have large penalities for outsiders (-50 law, -50 health and +100 growth)
- Greeks can build City Barracks, Athenian Colony, and Corinthian Colony, which allow recruitment of previously city-specific hoplites in all places.
- Spartans and Carthaginian Sacred band Infantry/Cavalry have unbreakable morale.
- New units from discarded models: Armenian cataphract archer, Pontic cataphract, Greek companion hoplite, and Greek heavy cavalry.
LATIN EMPIRE AAR
It's the special year of 1 AD, 100 years after the end of the last and most horrible punic war - in which both of the Roman Republic and the Carthaginian Empire fought to death. The republic is long gone and the italian peninsula, outside of the city of Rome, is now ruled by various barbarian tribes. The Carthaginians are not better either, as most of their adult-age men were killed during the war, they are reduced to a tiny state similar to that of ancient Phoenicians. Their commerce thrived in the next one hundred years and the wealth was largely restored, but their citizens also grow with a strong fear of war - and so they disbanded all navies and hoped not to offend any faction or even engage war once again.....
In the half ruined, once the great city of Rome, our leader Quintus, who claims himself to be the last Roman noble, is reading an old scroll of the battle of the Trebia, wondering how the Republican soldiers in his grandfather's time managed to break the line of Carthaginians, against all the odds, and retreated in calm and order, even through they had been seriously defeated. And he looks at his army - despite being harshly trained ever since he took the position, they're still far from the old, good republican legionaries: disicipline is nearly non-existent, and some of the italian natives seem born to be bloodthirsting, more like wild animals than human soldiers. And the fiercest, religious samnite warriors, are really mad butchers - they just cannot stop killing enemy on the battle field. The last report says they, in the scout team to north africa, went berserker upon encountering a small carthaginian army who has no hostility against us, and slaughtered every of them under no one's command:
So what should I do? He asked himself. Since his birth, he's been taught to achieve the only one goal in the life - rebuild the once great Republic, to rise from the ashes and ruins. And he hadn't shamed his ancestors; the city is taken back, barbarian tribes are surpressed, and trade and farming are being rebuilt. But he is 47 now, death comes closer and closer every day. Yet his city remains underdeveloped, his soldiers skilled but hard to command, and he neither has the wealth nor the manpower to expand outwards, not to mention to reclaim the southern towns which the sneaky greeks stole after the fall of the Republic..........
So here we are: A roman faction with half-barbarian, over-priced armies, while everyone else in the world have access to all the civilized goodies (barbarian Aqueduct, highways, ...) and post-marian units.
Preview of the new army - from AOR Italian units and mercs:
Roman faction changes:
- Hastati/Principes/Triarii/Legionaries are removed
- Unit: Latin Legionaries, modded from AEE Hannibal's Veteran Infantry, represent the old and good, disciplined, Republican soldiers, who can only be trained in the Legion Barracks (upgraded from the Roman Citizenship).
- Unit: Latin Infantry, modded from AEE Samnite Hastati, are the shock heavy infantry of the new army, but they're impetuous like barbarians
- Unit: Latin Skirmishers, modded from Italy Velites. Their cost is doubled, but carry one more javelin as stated in wikipedia, and their melee combat skill has been enhanced. The skirmishers are now the largest portion of the army.
- Unit: Latin Syrian Archers. They have been made romans-only and can be recruited in italy and other places if higher-level barracks are present. Like the skirmishres, their cost is also doubled and the hand-to-hand fighting skill is improved, so they may be used to break demoralized light infantry.
- Samnite Warriors, modded from AEE Samnite Spearmen, are religious zealots fighting in old hoplite style. They frighten nearby enemy and could become berserker during battles (yeah berserker hoplites!) - but they wear very little armour, unlike elite units in other factions.
- No more equites because they had been made enemy of the state during the last war - a punishment for their failure against carthaginian cavalry. Untrained, low-morale AOR cavalry is all we have now.
And the last, all italian infantry units have the cost/upkeep increased by 50% to 100%, with small adjustment on stats.
The campaign will be played on H/M, begin tomorrow!
House rules:
- Lose the campaign if in dept (IMHO this should be a hardcoded rule in RTW)
- Low tax all the time. The italians are a chosen people by the gods and should not be taxed.
- All foreign bastards must die after we capture their cities, and their evil buildings are to be razed immediately. While the italians must not be harmed in any way after battle. - CANCELLED, all cities must be exterminated unless they're ours before... The rebels in VH really borthered me
- Automatic-resolving battle may be used when more than half of the enemy army are HAs or cowardly skirmishers - CANCELLED because I added the armoured archers
- Retreating from battle field is not acceptable. If an unit routs, it'd be disbanded and all men in it are punished to death (feed rebels/pirates).

It's my first AAR, so please point out and correct me if I use any wrong word/sentence
