Duchy of Athens? Hmm sounds interesting. :hmmm: Was that a Frankish dynasty ruled over Hellas for a period?
Uh yes how could i forget famous Catalan Company! They were a real trouble for ERE... Hmm Iberian, Frankish, Hellen and some Turkish mercenary spice can make an excellent experience. I always loved such hybrid factions. Pontos in EB is a great example for me. Half Hellenic half Persian and some Celtic. Sounds good
mmm....shouldn't this faction be "Crown of Aragón"?

The catalans gave the control of both Athens and Neopatria to the king Pedro IV of Aragon, man, and he had the title Duke of Athens since 1380 and the title Duke of Neopatria since 1377.

I can help about the french idiome.
sure my english isn't the best...but I read myself some books in ancient french. So I can try to translate your historic sources from the Frankish Greece if needed.
I think its very hard to translate ancient french to modern english with google Chrome...maybe impossible.
this should answer

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Neopatria
"Walter V had hired the Company to defend his Duchy of Athens from the neighboring Greek states the Despotate of Epirus, the Byzantine Empire, and the Vlach-inhabited entity called Great Wallachia. This they did with great success, but Walter attempted to discharge them, picking a moiety of the company and paying them lavishly to remain in his service, while ordering the expulsion of the rest without their pay. When the Company resisted, Walter assembled the feudal host of Frankish Greece, with reinforcements sent from Naples, assembling 700 Frankish knights and native Greek horsemen, a large number of infantry, mostly native Greeks (set at 24,000 by Muntaner), as well as the 200 horsemen and 300 footmen he had selected from the Catalan Company."
"Halmyros is sometimes compared to the Battle of Agincourt where light, missile-armed troops were able to defeat heavily encumbered opponents hindered by adverse terrain. The paralyzing charge into the bogs and the slaughter that followed resulted in the near annihilation of the nobility of the Principality of Achaea and its vassal states. The Catalan Company proceeded to occupy the Duchy of Athens, which they placed under the protection of a prince of the House of Aragon and ruled until 1379. This tremendous smash also ended the golden age of Frankish chivalry in the Duchy of Athens. The remaining Latin states would now be largely dependent on external powers such as Naples and Venice for support."
"In 1318-1319 the Almogavars of the Catalan Company, after having conquered most of the Duchy of Athens, expanded into the territories of the Despotate of Epirus in southern Thessaly, under Alfonso Frederick, the infante of the Kingdom of Sicily. The new territories were created a duchy and united with the Duchy of Athens. The Duchy was divided into the captaincies of Siderokastron, Neopatria, and Salona (modern Amfissa).Part of the Duchy's possessions in Thessaly was conquered by the Serbs of Stefan Dusan in 1337. In 1377, the title of Duke of Neopatria was assumed by Peter IV of Aragon. It was preserved among the subsidiary titles of his successors, and is still included in the full title of the Spanish monarchs."
so, it seems that catalan company was under protectorate of aragon, but not under aragon. it says that catalan company ruled until 1379, when later peter taken under his control

Well, Catalan company carried with them the banner of Aragon (the banner with red and yellow stripes), and when they conquered Athens and Neopatria they put on their government a Veguer (vicary), something typical of Catalan administration, under the comman of the King of Aragon.
Also, when the Almogavars charged they used to shout "Aragó, Aragó!" which in Catalan means "Aragón". That's on Ramon Muntaner's Chronicle, the best resource about the Almogavars (he himself fought with them).
Anyway, think on gameplay as you wish.
