Clan Home, here!
Hey guys, I was looking information on the Norse being in the Brittish Isles, and I found that the MacDonalds, MacDougalls, and MacLeods all have Norse lineages, this was found through DNA tests:
Atleast in modern times that is.
My question is, did these clans take anything unique from the Norse?
Sorry for the double post, but I'd really like to know the history behind the connection as I can't find information on it.
I'm both curious of this because I want to learn something about history and if they will have something unique to them in your game.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Rangers Fan....sorry about taking so long to reply. You are correct about the Norse influence on highland peoples and especially the 3 factions you have mentioned which will be in our games.
A good (albeit), brief introduction is found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somerled
But these lineages aren't something newly acquired to history through science, these have been firmly established and known since the Middle Ages, via both the written and oral word.
In our mod these 3 factions are shown as Gaelic factions.
Thanks Reiver, really appreciate it!
Reason I asked is I couldn't find any information, except it said one of the Factions claimed a Gaelic ancestor as their main ancestor but a Norseman was found to be a common ancestor of the three clans I named.
Would Norse culture be reflected in their warfare at this time though? Seems like the area and population would wash that out like the French influence on the Viking Normans. In our mod these 3 factions are shown as Gaelic factions.

too bad there isn't a Grant or Maclachlan clan as i am both, namesake being Maclachlan, but my mum is a Grant,
oh and The Bruce, remember that both of my clans supported you (Grant being a rather big one), and I agree with Mackios The Grants weren't big fans of the traitorous Campbells.

MacDonald, naturally. I'm of Clanranald and would also like to get at the Campbells especially since I've been to the site of the massacre.
@McMoose77
I know some MacLaughlins in Glasgow! They're my correspondence with Scotland, and the Grants fought two regiments to the left of Clanranald at Culloden

you're absolutely correct.

Clan Douglas of course!
Did you guys manage to get ALL of the clan in the game?
This map blows my mind
Clans ahoy!
Version 3 will feature 5 new clan factions:
MacDonald
MacLeod
MacKenzie
Comyn
MacDougall
Version 4 will have more (3+?)
Other clans feature as Rebels.
That map pertains to a much later period than our mod.
No Clan Douglas??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not Yet.
It is not simple - if you add every major Clan what does the Scotland faction become?
Would it make sense to have Clan Douglas as a separate faction to Robert the Bruce's Scotland?
Guess it would be MacDonald, as I have some ancestory there. But no Crawford or Murray? Murray of Atholl is where my name comes from.MacDonald
MacLeod
MacKenzie
Comyn
MacDougall
I know they weren't the most major, but every guy has to pull for his clan.
