Thread: Feudalism

    Default Feudalism

Great idea to make a super mod. I hope it will be as good as Europa Barbarorum. But how will you recreate the political system in the middle ages? Since most countries in Europe were feudal, you have to include it in one way or another. In medievel times there was no weapon industry or uniforms for the soldier to use. All their equipment was bought and maintained by the soldiers them selves. Also there was no real army in the way that the romans had. When a lord went to war he used the soldiers of his vassals who were mostly non professional fighters. And if you are going to include Norway as a faction, please DO NOT make those stupid "sami axemen". The developers of kingdoms couldn't have read Norwegian military history at all when they made the game.

Actually, the things were more complicated. Since according to feudal law, vassals only had to serve 40 days per year and also because such forces were not always properly equipped, rulers would also look for other solutions. William the Bastard relied on continental mercenaries (in part because he feared a Scandinavian invasion and hence had to keep Britain defended). Their superiority was noticed and mercenaries became very important in medieval warfare. France created an effective, although awfully expensive, permanent paid army during the Hundred Years' War.

If their mercenaries and lords were effective, then how come the militia saved France?
