Bulgarian Spearmen - using spear as their main weapon and clad in scale armour, are one of the basic units of Bulgarian Tsardom. Their armament and skill ensure that they can be relied on to hold a line, but they will definitely be hard pressed when engaging elite units... Bulgarian swordsmen- Similarly armoured as their spear-wielding counterparts, but armed with a sword instead. More agile than spearmen, they can be used as assault units on specific points. Bolyar Cavalry – Bolyar cavalry is one of the heaviest variant of Bulgarian cavalry. Bolyars of Bulgaria always maintained a strong force of cavalry. the Shishmans are reported to have maintained at least a few thousand well equipped armored horsemen, and this force obviously played a great role in their ascenssion to power eventually. They are equipped with heavy armour and use lances as their primary weapon, with devastating effects. Their skill and morale unquestionable, enemies of Bulgaria will have to be vary of them. Why? I'm Bulgarian and I'm blond (well, ash-blond) - not all Bulgarians are Mediteranean-looking and actually (ash-)blond people aren't so rare.

Some of the 1st line infantry pics you posted could with small changes be byzantines aswell (bulgarians adopted the byz armor/weapon style!in fact someone could hardly recognise if a soldier was bulgarian or byzantine by his equipment)!!!Verry nice job guys!!!!

I like the left one especially much, since it fits the reports that the Bulgarians used to wear clothes above their armour! Too bad that I can't read (and understand; reading itself isn't that hard) the Greek text...

Well, if you need some inspiration, you could check this. And if you speak Serbian, I guess you won't have trouble with understanding what's written on Bulgarian too.
