I've seen some anime. Not a whole lot. Some I really liked. Some I didn't.

The anime that I've liked has featured characters that are vibrant, lively, perhaps cocky, but at the same time I'm not really looking for a comedy. Full Metal Alchemist has been my favorite anime so far, and Ed has been one of my favorite characters. I don't hate Inuyasha either. I'm not looking for something goofy, but I'm also not looking to spend 13 hours watching a walking mess of complexes.

I'm not a big fan of subtitles, I greatly prefer dubs.

So what should I be watching?

    Goddamn!

Black Lagoon.. worked for me! Guys if you like organised crime and piracy, with a bit of modern day flair, and some awesome animation quality, pick this up! It's best with dubs on!

Finally got through watching your recommendations and I liked Blue Gender, Blood+, and Air. I found Fate/Stay Night to be too much like the tenchi series. Clannad and Chobits were just too silly for me(though I only caught the first ten minutes of these shows before giving up on them, the same goes for Fate/Stay Night). As for Code Geass I just couldn't find and episodes with English subtitles or dubbing.

How many Shippuuden episodes are available on the internet, that you know about? I've only managed to get to 41.

I'd most like something in a similiar vein to Bleach: Big fights, big cast, decent story (Enough to keep me interested and attached to what's going on, but it doesn't need to revolutionize anime or anything by a longshot.).

And I know it's been done quite a bit, but I've always rather liked the trends of bad guys coming in groups where each member has his own speciality. (Organization XIII, the Espadas, the Homonculi are good examples if you're familiar with Kingdom Hearts/Bleach/Full Metal Alchemist, respectively.) So if it has something like that, and the members and their gimmicks are at least interesting, that's a big plus.
I do hereby resolve to stay out of any debates in the political mudpit and the Ethos and Mores thread! ...What? I suck at arguing my point!

I also like most things produced by Gainax, with the exception of the nonsense slugfest that is FLCL (Fu-Ri-Ku-Ri). Wings of Honneamise is definitively Gainax at its best.

If you haven't already, Rurouni Kenshin is simply a classic that does all the above. The letter.

Most shonen anime you'll find in Shonen Jump magazines follow this exact pattern, and they're quite numerous. From One Piece, Kenshin, and even YuGiOh to shows like Claymore and Shaman King and G Gundam.

    I'm currently watching Princess Tutu.

It's a shojou (girls') anime. About ballet.

    And it's amazingly awesome.

Claymore wasn't really Shounen, More mature then that.

Patlabor was pretty good, as a series and the movies. I recommend BERSERK highly. It's bloody and fun.

Nah. It was intended as shonen instead of seinen.

I don't really like anime but my brother is into 'Death Note' and it seems pretty cool to me -- anyone else seen it?

I've read the manga, and 1st season was very good, but IMO it went down the drain in the 2nd season and the ending was horrible.
