My idea is that we should not expand unless provoked. Pyrrhus has provoked us, so let us take his lands in and around Tarentum. However, I see no reason as of now to expand further.

Consul, a number of senators have requested that you use spys against the Greeks in the south and at Calabria. I believe this would be a wise decision, and give us an idea of the odds we face in Pyrrhus.

Here you will find the current updates on our forces. The first is an image of the north. Three camps were erected each containing one legion. This is to ensure swift response in case of emergency in terms of a threat from the north.

The second is a map of central Italia. One legion is in camp just east of Capua. This legion can in one move be at any of the following towns:
Roma; Asculum; Capua; Apulania; Cannae; Tarrentum; Neapolis and Croton

The fifth legion is currently in Croton holding the peace. This is the legion I have used for all my campaigns.
I have also decreased the number of troops in each town to around 600 - 1000 instead of 2500+

Very nice job with the defenses, Co-consul. May we have a report on the readiness of each legion (Reports on each legion specifically)? Also, do you think, now that we have no declared enemies and only a pseudo threat from the north, that we can start to disband some of our wartime legions?

I have considered this and currently with the amount of citites under the governance of the Res Publica, V legions should be suffice at this juncture. More may be required if needed. The Senate has already put in motion for IV legions plus and additional II. Currently we are under target however each fort has one full legion. They are ready to move as we speak however they all do not have the right equipment. We still need blacksmiths and armourers to ensure our men have the right equipment.

I understand. However, we aren't at war with anyone, and those four legions were to fight Pyrrhus. Now that he is gone, do you think they are needed?

Oh will you stop it! I was suggesting scrapping the plan for the four new legions which the consul tells me haven't been recruited yet!

when did we agree on 4 new legions?! i though we had 6 in the feild no more no less.

At this point the legions we have should be suffice. Any additional shoudl be brought to vote despite previous motions. These legions are mostly comprised of troops already recruited and stationed in the towns

Okay so did we recruit the four or not? I'm rather confused on the state of our armies right now. Perhaps the Consul-elect could enlighten us if he has time.
