Default Comitatia Legata, Consulate of Publicola\Drusus(The War Room)

The new war room, be weary senators, dark time lay ahead of us.

Any and all tactical plans are welcomed here.

Croton has to be taken with minimal loses. as quickly as it can be.
ooc: I have played the save game and Eritptos attacks twice at the end of the term and Carthage sail away.

    Hmmmm. Thanks for the heads-up.

However, I don't think people playing ahead should be reporting future events. This will surely influence the decisions in the Senate and make the whole thing less interesting...

As for taking Croton, it has to be done asap. It will help our finances (a bit...).

absolutely, playing ahead is allowed and encouraged, but the results MUST not enter into your actions in the senate!

    EDIT

Since our largest naval obstacle, Carthage, has been removed with our alliance, and the upkeep of the navy is extreme, I move that we disband the fleet.

The choice is simple men. We either wait it out and watch them starve, or we attack them. But I warn you against a direct assault. A direct assualt against them is fraught with danger. The streets can create bottlenmecks that will always favour the defender. SO while I urge the cautious approach, I would like some senatorial input.

Is it safe to lay siege and wait? Are there any direct menace to our troups in the area?

No, the Carthaginians have jumped on their ships on the toe of Italy. We will have a clear theatre of operations. And should anyone interfere, or the enemy sally, we stand a better chance in the open than in their city.

How long do you think this city can hold a siege, Consul? I would tend to push for an offensive on the city nevertheless. Every month we wait is more potential financial revenue we loose. However, not being in the fields, it is hard for me to properly assess the situation.

Simon - it can hold just a year (4 turns). and in that time, we will still make thousands(literally!).

I would recommend the siege tactic. If they sally, be sure not to allow them to flank you, as they will have the advantage. Their army seems to be better trained and more experienced than ours.

Other than that, I can offer no advice. Good luck, consul!

use your skirmishers well; the enemy (AI) forces seem to try to dispatch with them first so use them to spring a trap or two on our enemies; also Lepidus is right() siege them out!in the worst case, the sally forth and you can beat them on open ground far easier than in city streets!Remember the strength of roman legions are the tactics used, not numerical superiority...
