I would say that taking Paestum by force is near suicidal. In fact, they can call up more men than Pyrrhus just did. And they have an advantageous battle ground.

This simultaneous assault is very suspicious to me. Clearly our enemies have been making backroom deals to attack us. Carthage must be shown no mercy.

What I was referring to was the motions to scrap our expensive navy and raise our taxes.

Also, I will have a report for starving out the defenders. I warn you now, it was bloody, and part of that was a bug, or error on the gaming map as screenies in the report will show, and a case of the notorious RTW AI.

for now we have to unit Southern italy and get our econemy up to speed.

Men, we have taken Paestum, but with the death of almost an entire legion, and the soon to be execution of a commander.



We were attacked outside the city and soon chaos rained down on high. Men on both sides ran wildly and against all orders for no reason or explaination.



But as the battle began, a quick victory was scored as the Consul bagged the spoils of war (the armour and weaponry of the enemy king) for himself.



This was the only victory for the first Legion. Within minutes, It was crushed by the numbers of Campanians flinging themselves at the line. And through all this, the reinforcements slowly walked and watched our men die.



The rot was only stopped by the gallant actions of a handful of Funtidores who charged straight into the enemy and soon rallied some of the main battle infantry to continue the fight.




And when the reinforcements attacked, the enemy disintergrated and the Consul galloped head long to the town square to fight the few who remained there, hoping to raise the flag and break the enemy.




But the 2nd legion halted and watched. So the bare remnants of the 1st fought to take the town alone, and without the numbers needed, died or ran.



In the end, the second did fight and win, but the Consul has taken command, and the old general(just a captain) has been executed.

I label them as traitors because they are so...How else can you call this shameful abandoning of Legio I to their fates? Many Romans died not because of the enemies or a misdoing of the Consul but from the lack of faith and courage by Legio's II commander...If I was in charge I would decimate the Legion(disband the 1\10,RP proposal...) for their cowardice! As for the Commander of Legio II,Captain Secundus,I would have done the same thing - I commend you,Consul;Failure cannot be tolerated!And that coward has disappointed Rome for the last time...
