Victory outside Croton



The Epirot army has sallied, but their king leads a suicide attack with just his guards while the main epirot army is held up by the Carthaginians. This allowed our men and the Consular guards to kill the brave, yet hopeless fool.





This allowed the army to form a strong formation for the arrival of the main force. I formed with the Roman Hastati and Princepes in the center with our Italic allies on either flank for a simple hammer and anvil tactic. Soon the Epirots threw themselves against the line, and soon they were to be killed. Despite this, the Consul and his guards launched an ambitious attack against the last member of Epirot monarchy. Although he had to retreat before the pikemen impaled them, he lured the heteroi onto the battle ready line and killed many of the guards.





But soon the hammer slammed into the rear of the epirots and the general was hunted down by the brave consul. Quickly the Epirots deteriorated into a retreat, and many were hunted down and killed.






And men, praise Mars and Jupiter, the Epirots are DEAD!

Men, the people of Croton were less than grateful of their freedom from Epirot rule. Instead of welcoming us as liberators, they formed an army and prepared to give foolish fight. These soldiers who did so we all killed, but the people of the city were spared.



But there is pressing business. I want the permission to engage in those that refused to ally with Rome when Pyrrhus first landed. here is a report on the local states that almost cost all of Italy her freedom. Who would you have me attack.(Paestum has a garrison similar to Rhegion).

Firstly congratulations on your victory;It was costly but as always we must see the good side of events.The epirotes are down and may never recover from this defeat!

Men, the Consul brings news from the war.

I immediatly headed for Paestum, but the unfortunate arrival of Pyrrhus in campania and the Carthaginians attacking in the close vicinity(Pyrrhus actually appeared on the exact same tile) diverting our efforts. Thankfully, the italic cities of central Italy grouped together half of a new army to face this supposedly dead man. These men were combined with the men manning the etruscan border to form a new second legion. This army and the battered and bruised first marched to meet both threats.





First, I battled Pyrrhus with the help of the young aristocrat Lucius Fabricus. This was a victory, but Pyrrhus's position atop a large hill, and a great amount of Kretikoi archers and rhodian slingers killed many.




Here the Carthaginians saw the foolishness of their rash attack and retreated to the edge of our land. It was hear that I offered them piece in exchange for a 1,000 denarii. They accepted, yet soon their navy blockaded Tarentum. It was now that I struck and that they fled to thier ships in the south.





And now I am outside of Paestum. And I call a quick Council of you all in the war room. In 1 hour, I will either starve them out and finish my term, or assault. Meet me in the war room.
