Thread: Dragon Age

Yeah like the gameplay trailer with zooming and camera control so you can get proper group combat look and still have 3rd person running around. The fatality thing on that creature was really nice too Though I wish Bioware has shown more "awe" aspects of the game, I guess they cant without ruining the storyline but still.

Sadly it seems like there will be no multiplayer whatsoever. I'm frustrated at the divide between Online and Offline RPG becoming much bigger, to the point that all we have is MMORUPGERs (Which suck ass) and Single player RPGs.

I disagree. The old-fashioned approach of having a "multiplayer option" on single-player games which were not necessarily well-adapted to the multiplayer format is what was holding back the potential of multiplayer games as a whole. Breaking away from that was a crucial step.

Now what we have is an approach whereby games seek to specialise in either single or multi-player - hence resulting in more expert and better adapted product.

I am very pleased that it is a single-player game only. Look at the mess that was the single-player game in Neverwinter Nights.

I do hate that there's no multiplayer option even. Half the fun of a construction set is creating multiplayer worlds, it would be nice to see MP in an expansion.

On the other hand, if multiplayer were included it may screw up the way the developers want to portray classes. In a single player game, balance is not required, in competitive MP it is.

While it does benefit them in specializing their approach on singleplayer, there's nobody trying to specialize an approach in multiplayer beyond those P.O.S MMORPGs, which carry not expectations of an RPG game but rather of an MMO.

It's a win for Singleplayer RPGs, but a loss for Multiplayer RPGs. I'm biased towards Multiplayer RPGs, because I feel a game's longevity is increased further by being multiplayer than singleplayer. Doesn't mean I won't enjoy this game a lot, but I was hoping for something I could enjoy with friends. Not be forced to play some grindae gaem bs in order to play with friends in an RPG.

Agree with danzig here, with this trailer it feels definitely more appealing to me.

    Thought this was interesting. :hmmm:

However, in April of 2004 IGN released information that a Baldur's Gate III is in the works. Any other information has, for now, not been released. There is no solid evidence as to whether or not the game is actually in development, although it will likely go ahead due to its commercial potential.[2]

In the January 2008 issue of PC Gamer UK, the editor claims that he knows that Baldur's Gate III is indeed being worked on.

Could BG III = Dragon Age?

Thought I'd bump this with vids.

    A rather uninspiring in-game fight:

A more impressive in-game charactor interaction:

Not sure about the in-game one it looks Baldur's Gates-esqe but I was hoping something a bit more... sweeping. If the gameplay is there though it'll make up for it and I hope the enemies are tutorial-fodder. Also the in-game charactor portraits are inferior to the lovely ones in the BG and ID series.

    Still, worth looking out for.

If anyone can make a good multiplayer RPG its Bioware. Neverwinter Nights is the only succesfull MRPG created so far.

I really couldnt care less about the singleplayer in that game and really dont understand why people complained about such a little thing when there is a great amount of gameworlds online to log in to, all created by players and ran by players. Roleplaying with other players will always beat roleplaying with NPC's.

Mass Effect, KOTOR and Jade Empire have all been great games but the three of them combined I may have spend about 200 hours with if I am being optimistic.

I played Neverwinter Nights since a few months after its release almost every day usually, and with a break of about a month sometimes.

I would estimate that I have played it over 5000 hours.

While most slogans for games are complete bull**** the slogan "Unlimited adventures, one box." for NWN is very much true. It does provide infinite replayability.

Having an editor wont do much good if you cant share it with anyone.

    Looking interesting.

But the PC has no voice?

    Mass Effect has spoiled me

I guess it's cos you get to choose your character dwarf/human/elf+ fighter/mage/rogue... though tbh Baldur's gate had plenty that fitted most choices.

Baldur's Gate has some voices where it counts. There's much too much dialogue to make it all voice. The game is much deeper for that. dialogue doesn't come down to describing where point A and B are on the fetch quest.

Don't worry, BG2 is rightfully sometimes quoted as best RPG ever.

    Background stories announced.
    Dalish Elf
As one of the last "true elves", you were content to spend your life wandering with your clan...until a chance encounter with a relic of your people's past threatens to tear you away from everything you've known.

    City Elf
You have always lived under the heavy thumb of your human overlords, but when a local lord claiming his "privilege" with the bride shatters your wedding day, the simmering racial tensions explode in a rain of vengeance.

    Dwarf Commoner
Born casteless in a land where rank is everything, bound as the lackey and thug of a local crime lord, you have spent your life invisible...until chance thrusts you into the spotlight, where you can finally prove whether you will be defined by your actions or your birth.

    Dwarf Noble
The favored child of the dwarven king, you proudly take up your first military command...only to learn that the deadly intrigues of dwarven politics pose an even greater danger than that faced on the battlefield.

    Mage
Gifted with a power considered a dangerous curse by most, you have spent most of your life secluded in the remote tower of the Circle of Magi to be trained and watched closely by the dreaded templars. Now your final test is upon you ? succeed and prove your strength, fail and you will perish.

    Human Noble
Born to wealth and power second only to royalty, you find your training in both diplomacy and war put to the test when your father's castle is betrayed from within on the very night your elder brother is to lead the family's forces to war.
The name Origins is aimed precisely at the origin leads to how you're will be meet in the world and your identity. The different identities you can play as is two different elves, dwarfs and humans and all with different goals and commitments in future and past.

Well Its Bioware and not some crappy company like Obsidian that releases games almost a year before they are finished.

When its out we can play it all we want, I rather wait a bit longer and get a better game. Bioware is good for it, they earned our trust with all they did so far.

I don't like these 6 "starting backgrounds" I wanted to roll my own damn player. So much for Dragon Age being "their own system" it doesn't seem to have any inkling of RPG in it. The game is looking more and more like Mass Effect with swords. I bet it will even have the same feeling.

Still I will check it out, but I'm weary. I also don't want 10 minute cutscenes where nothing happens, like the one already given to us *cough*.

Expect to see those restrictive origins in all Bioware games henceforth, I'm betting.

God forbid, we may not be that far from WRPGs being like JRPGs and giving us pre-designed characters.
