Can you recruit cannons?

Started playing this mod a bit ago and love it. Just have a question and hope someone can clear this up for me. I don't seem to be able to build any buildings that allow me to build cannons. For every city the building browser shows that cannon buildings are allowed in castles and for every castle the browser shows its only available in cities. What am I missing here?

Well, has gunpowder been invented yet? There is a special event that informs you it has been, then you can build all gunpowder units including cannons, cannons on ships and musketeers.

Thats probably it, but while playing without the mod I didnt recall that event and I was building cannons. Right now im at 1204, any clue when the special event happens?

It usually doesn't happen until the 1300s if I remember right.
