Default BC: Eastern Christian Art Sources

    Hello from the BC team,

I want to eventually, either for 1.0 or later, to create a unique 'eastern christian' strat-map user interface. Basically what I need from you guys is as many good quality images of Byzantine/Greek, Armenian, Georgian and general eastern christian artwork or any cultural items. Anything that looks beautiful and is historically linked to the above cultures is needed..

    Basically anything like the following:

    - Miniature Paintings
    - General Illustrations
    - Architecture Details
    - Carvings, Engravings
    - Preserved texts

Etc. Pretty much any image of items related to those cultures is welcome. Weapons and decorative items contemporary to those cultures is also relevant. Coins are welcome too.

I'd especially like patterns and mosaics that can be used as a sort of texture.

So if you have any image sources related to Byzantine/Greek, Armenian, Georgia, Syrian Christian, Coptic or any other cultures relevant to 'eastern christianity' please post way.

Those are *amazing* photos JIT! I think some are definitely usable for other things like event pics.

For example I could use this for when a monastery is built:

    Gorgeous landscape btw.

    Excellent photos Arsen!!

Sartarabad is interesting. It's a soviet era monument, and as such, they couldn't use christian symbolism in it even though church bells rallied the soldiers and militia to battle...so it has a ton of pagan symbolism (which the soviets did a great deal of research on in armenia)...
which rather doesn't have to do with Cilician Armenia

    http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5074/dsc00621ng4.jpg
The Inscription (or is it relief?) on the top left of the monument says "Hayrenik" or "Fatherland" (in the sense the property you inherit from your patrolinial side). Sorta conflicts with the whole trying to kill nationalism thing.

    @mirage
Can you imagine besieging that place? There's ridiculously little even ground by the fortress. I'd imagine a besieging force would have to camp on the other side of the valleys ringing the fortifications. Yet somehow it succumbed at one point or another.

The images got me interested and I was scoping out Armenia/Transcaucusus in Google Earth, just to check out the terrain. Its pretty obvious that these lands are almost like a greener version of afghanistan. I think I'll make some new ranges and passes to make the Armenian and the surround areas cliffy-er. (the current armenia has too many flat areas)

There are flat areas...but they're ringed by either steep valleys or mountains. And by flat I mean hilly.

Sadly, the Soviets did try to eliminate religion, however, they failed miserably! I always felt that Sartarapat needed something along the lines of a bell tower or maybe a large Khachkar-esque addition.
